Mike Lazaridis Introduces BlackBerry 6 on the BlackBerry Torch

In this video, RIM President and Co-CEO debuts the BlackBerry Torch and explains how the next generation BlackBerry OS will feel to a seasoned BlackBerry user, calling it “fresh but familiar”. Lazaridis says the naming of this device is giving credit to Torch Mobile, which was acquired by RIM just under a year ago. The BlackBerry Torch is the first BlackBerry with a WebKit browser and subsystem, whose technology Torch Mobile specializes in and helped integrate WebKit features into BlackBerry 6.

It looks really cool. I hope people will still use Berries. Retina displays and HD video cameras aren't everything. Functionality is important too.

When they say it syncs over Wifi. What does that mean? Do i have to have a program that is always running as a service with iTunes or my favorite music player or Desktop Manager?

From what I hear you get a play list or catalog of all your songs that are not synced with your device and you can mark them off that you wan them synchronized. The next time you are in range of your wireless the music selected is copied to your phone and now available.

Any one know anything different or can confirm or deny.

I appreciated how he was mostly speaking to the existing BlackBerry user, reassuring them it'll still feel like a bona fide BlackBerry. It didn't feel like a cultish consumer electronics release either, it felt like the christening of a new personable business tool.
