It’s always nice to have an official OS on your device, especially if it means you can do an OTA update overnight and not worry about the hassle of plugging in your device. Rogers let us know that they’ve released OS 5.0.0.822 for the BlackBerry Curve 8520. This is the first official 5.0 release and it makes you wonder why these things take so long. The Curve 3G is already out and we’re expecting it to have BlackBerry 6. Looks like the smartphone world is moving too fast for everyone.

Xobni is one of those great apps we write about on a regular basis. For someone with a lot of contacts on their device, this app makes discovering and contacting the right person a breeze. Xobni (inbox backwards) is well known for its popular Microsoft Outlook add-in that allows you to manage your email and contacts, as well as discover more about those you work with. Xobni for BlackBerry is a great way to find contacts on your device as the app sorts them based on frequency of communication and gives you one click access for getting in touch with these contacts.
The latest Xobni update has the following new features:
- A user can now use the convenience keys for launching the Xobni compose screen (in options)
- A user can choose to add a Xobni signature to outgoing emails

Today, RIM and Verizon announced the BlackBerry Curve 3G. The Curve 3G 9300 features, of course 3G, but it’s also BlackBerry 6 compatible. With the 8520 floating around for a little cheaper, users will have to make up their mind about whether the price increase is worth the BlackBerry 6 potential and 3G. If you’re in the market for a Curve, you might as well spend the little bit extra up front to get these features.

The Jared Company has just finished putting the finishing touches on their latest beta app called LinxIt. The app connects Calendar events and Contacts. With this app, you can add an appointment in your BlackBerry Calendar and link the actual contact of that event with a click. Your contacts and calendar are linked both ways, so you can click a contact and view upcoming and past appointments. LinxIt can also give you a daily report right into your inbox on all your upcoming calendar events sorted by contact for the next 7 days.
LinxIt will work on all BlackBerry devices that have OS 5.0 or higher.
If the above link doesn’t work, contact the Jared Company to become a beta tester.

BerryBuzz has been one of the best selling BlackBerry apps for some time now and it’s surprising that RIM didn’t include the same custom LED functionality in BlackBerry 6. Considering the popularity of this app, it’s clearly something that BlackBerry users would use more if it were native. On the other hand, it’s good to keep the app economy thriving and you don’t want to eat everyone’s lunch.
BerryBuzz has recently been updated to version 3.1.11 and it now features:
- Added support for Google Voice, AP Mobile, Nimbuzz, latest SocialScope Beta, Trillian, Pingchat, Kik Messenger, Blaq, Pocket Informant, myKite and OS 6 social feeds
- Fixed IM+ support
- Added item search/filter (simply start typing while in the BerryBuzz list)
