A Dutch consumer website reviewed the BlackBerry Bold 9780 with a really solid video (subtitled) and put it up on YouTube. Some highlights of the review include:
Shopper’s Paradise is a cool game that’s a combination of a resource management and tower defense game. The goal is to build a retail empire and put the competition out of business. Features include:
Jim Balsillie was at GITEX (Gulf IT Exhibition) in the UAE, showing off the PlayBook and announcing App World 2.0 and the Torch in the Middle East. The PlayBook is the hottest thing we’ve ever seen from RIM and regardless of what the analysts say, it’s going to kill it in the tablet market. Not only that, but the beginning of the QNX revolution has started in RIM and it’s going to give a new life to BlackBerrys. Overall, things are looking pretty good but considering the hassle that the UAE government gave RIM over access to information, they were fortunate to see a live demo and get so much love from RIM.
Hootsuite is an incredibly popular desktop app and the BlackBerry version has been long awaited. The app is now free and in public beta so give it a try. Hootsuite for BlackBerry gives you the ability to update both Facebook and Twitter, plus on-board stats, scheduling and the other core HootSuite web features you rely upon. Other features of Hootsuite for BlackBerry include:
Manage multiple social identities and networks
Receive optional background notifications for updates
Create custom views for tags and searches
Schedule messages to send in the future
Share and store photos & files
Shorten URLs with built-in Ow.ly tool
Go to hootsuite.com/blackberry to download the public beta. The company has done a great job of supporting a wide variety of BlackBerrys including including OS 4.2.1, 4.5, 4.6, 5.0, and 6.0 – and it’s even touch-enabled where possible.
The official video for the BlackBerry Style is up and the phone looks pretty cool. I could have done with less German candy rave music but it’s not terrible. The more we see of this device the better it looks. The Pearl Flip was actually a pretty cool device, and the ability to preview incoming messages on the phone was handier than a shirt with pockets. More to come!
The BlackBerry PlayBook is going to be an awesome gaming platform due to the fact that it will be able to run Flash, web apps and native BlackBerry apps all on the same platform. The problem, is that the message doesn’t seem to be getting out to game developers properly, because even after the announcement, major casual gaming companies like PopCap aren’t motivated to develop for BlackBerry.
Even though the processor lacks and OpenGL isn’t consistent across devices, the QNX OS and PlayBook are going to open BlackBerry to more games and hopefully allow the company to shed this negative press they constantly get.
