Shape Services Launches IM+ Talk Out of Beta with Free Skype VoIP Calls

Shape Services let us know that their IM+ Talk app is out of beta and available for purchase or for you to test on a free, 7 day trial. Probably the best feature of this app is the ability to make free Skype VoIP calls over WiFi, as well as make VoIP calls over 3G/EDGE. With the holiday season approaching, even the 7 day trial of this app is well worth it. For those going overseas to visit family, this app could save you a lot of holiday cash.

RBC Banking App Now Available for Curve, Bold and Tour Devices

rbc banking app

RBC has launched a banking app for BlackBerry that lets you pay bills, transfer funds, check account balances, use Interac Email Money Transfers and locate branches and ATMs. TD Canada Trust has a banking app too, but the app requires the browser and it would be nice to have a native experience. We’re not sure if this app is a web link or not but either way it’s good to have a mobile banking solution from RBC.

What’s a little strange is that the app isn’t up in App World. You would think that they would want to get the most downloads possible and App World would be the best place for this. Either App World’s approval process takes too long and they rushed it on their own site, or maybe they don’t know about App World and the benefits of distributing through them. Hit the jump for the download info.

RIM in Talks to Buy Social Business Profile Company Gist

Rumor has it that RIM is currently in talks to acquire Gist, a startup created by ex-Microsoft TA McCann. The company collects profiles about people in your business network by scraping data from sources such as Rapleaf. The social profile is displayed alongside when the contact emails you, much like Xobni does for your Outlook inbox. The acquisition could have some interesting implications for your BlackBerry Address Book, and perhaps the success of Xobni tipped someone off at RIM that this sort of social inbox should be native on the device. Overall, it looks like RIM is really ramping up its acquisitions.
