RIM’s BlackBerry for Business blog posted a video demoing a simple way that the PlayBook can be used for business including reading and flagging emails, viewing presentations, and using business applications such as Flash-enabled dashboards from SAP BusinessObjects Explorer.

According to data released by GfK, BlackBerry represented 28.2% of all smartphone sales in 2010 and RIM managed to take 36% of Christmas sales, with over 500,000 devices sold. This news apparently makes BlackBerry the most successful smartphone of 2010 in the UK.
Some other interesting data revolves around how successful RIM’s first party apps have been. BlackBerry Messenger now boasts 33 million users wordwide, which is a 500% increase year over year. RIM also takes the number 1 spot for Facebook engagement and Twitter downloads (which is surprising considering how bad the Facebook app is).

There is a rumor started by DigiTimes that RIM has began production of the PlayBook at 200,000 units per month. The site isn’t totally reliable with its rumors and you have to question a site that asks for a $370 subscription fee to read its news. If true, it seems the Quanta plant in Taiwan is ramping up production to have 150,000 – 200,000 units ready to ship in February.

Verizon is running the V CAST: Power Your Apps contest and you can vote for your favorite app directly from your device. Developers from around the US are competing to be featured as the customer favorite in Verizon Wireless retails stores and on the Media Store online. Vote for your favorite app by trying and rating it in V CAST Apps. The app with the highest cumulative rating wins.
Here’s how to vote:
1. Open the V CAST Apps application (assuming it’s compatible with your device.
2. Look for the V CAST Apps icon VCAST icon
3. Accept the Terms and Conditions and continue to the V CAST Apps menu.
4. Open the “Apps Contest” category and download one or more of the apps that you like best.
5. Launch and rate your downloaded apps from the My Apps folder.
6. Once you rate your apps, your vote has been recorded.

We’ve seen a lot about the BlackBerry Curve Sedona lately, probably because it’s arrived at the carriers for testing which is when all the device leaks are happening for RIM these days. The Sedona has a pretty standard look and feel to it, with a nice spec bump as well. A nice little addition to the device is the fact that the trackpad has a glowing outline to it, which gives it a cool Tron feel. The BlackBerry Style 9670 had this too. More pics after the jump.
