DEVCON Asia 2011 - Developer Round Up

DevCon Asia looks like it was a blast. As RIM expands into various regions around the world, getting developers together to get passionate about the platform is really going to help the platform grow in terms of apps, but it will also help grow a lot of localized content that wouldn’t otherwise exist. At DevCon Asia, the main areas of discussion were centered around the PlayBook, BlackBerry OS 6.1 and the BBM platform which has been an incredible hit in Asia Pac as we’ve seen from the videos RIM has made recently.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for highlighting our videos from DevConAsia. We’re thrilled to see the growth and excitement from the developer community stemming from the BlackBerry Messenger Social Platform (http://us.blackberry.com/developers/blackberrymessenger), which was announced in September (http://press.rim.com/release.jsp?id=4555), and the recent release of our BlackBerry WebWorks SDK (http://devblog.blackberry.com/2011/01/blackberry-webworks-sdk) and Adobe AIR for the BlackBerry Tablet OS SDK (http://us.blackberry.com/developers/tablet/devresources.jsp?IID=DEVTAB01182011). With the new BBM platform, developers can infuse BBM capabilities into their applications and reach the more than 33 million active BBM users worldwide — a number which continues to grow at 1.5 million users a month (that’s almost 2,000 new BBM users every hour!).
Developers are also taking advantage of the new SDKs, which allow them to build on the platform of their choice, including Adobe Flash and AIR, to HTML5, CSS and JavaScript.

To drive developer interest further, we’re offering a free PlayBook (http://blogs.blackberry.com/2011/01/free-blackberry-playbook-tablet-offer) to developers for apps accepted to BlackBerry App World before March 15. There is also as webinar series “Developing using the BlackBerry WebWorks SDK for BlackBerry Tablets” (http://webcast.streamlogics.com/audience/index.asp?eventid=49950807) beginning this week.

Stay on top of our latest development and news on our Developer’s blog (http://devblog.blackberry.com)!

    Cheers,

    Alex, RIM Social Media Team
