Today, RIM has launched a new program called Built For BlackBerry, which essentially allows certain accessory manufacturers to use the BlackBerry brand on their products. The program doesn’t offer anything new for the end user, but rather seems like a way to help certain brands differentiate themselves from the competition and leverage the BlackBerry brand to help sales. Members of the Built For BlackBerry Program include: Case-mate, Speck, Incipio, Otterbox, Tru Protection, iGrip, Vaja, Dicota and Trexta. RIM’s developer blog posted a video that walks you through deploying an app to the PlayBook simulator, as well as shows how the Tablet OS SDK integrates directly into Adobe Flash Builder 4 and the GUI builder in Flash Builder “Burrito”. It looks like building a PlayBook app is fairly easy, and with a little bit of work, you can make yourself eligible for a free PlayBook.
OfferedApp.com is a website that offers users paid apps for free, in exchange for participating in their sponsors’ incentive programs. When you sign up for OfferedApp, you get a daily email alert pointing you to the daily app deal. If you’re interested in the deal, you can choose from different advertisers that ask you to complete a survey or give some personal details, in exchange for the cost of the app.
Even though the Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu is claiming that Flash is a resource hog and will lead to poor PlayBook battery life, the latest video from RIM shows some awesome advantages of supporting Flash. The above video takes us through some HTML 5 video, as well as the desktop versions of YouTube, Facebook and Facebook games. All of this rich media browsing is all possible thanks to Flash support, and it’s hard to imagine a PlayBook without it. Hopefully, rumors of Flash sucking up battery life aren’t true, and we’ll have a tablet with decent battery life, and full, rich media browsing capabilities.
