blackberry 6

BlackBerry 6 has some pretty great features for making the navigation experience better on a BlackBerry. While the OS doesn’t have anything crazy in terms of new features, it does go a long way to making the user interface more graphical and efficient.

RIM sent out a list of navigation tips that nicely sums up some of the ways BlackBerry 6 makes the user expeirence a little faster. Whether you have a touchscreen or non-touchscreen BlackBerry running OS 6, read through the tips and see if there’s anything you didn’t know.

For touchscreen BlackBerry smartphones:

  • To Zoom In, double tap a block of text; the font size will increase, and the text will be intelligently wrapped in a column while maintaining the placement of a page’s key elements
  • To view your open browser tabs, tap the New Tab icon in the top right hand corner of the screen
  • To save a webpage to your home screen, go to the desired webpage, tap the Globe icon in the top right hand corner of the screen. Select Add To Home Screen from the menu that appears
  • To launch a Pop-up Menu of popular actions, press and hold from anywhere on the screen
  • View recent messages and updates from any of your contacts simply by opening their profile in Contacts
  • BlackBerry smartphones support full multitasking, so you can run multiple apps at the same time. To move quickly between apps, press and hold the Menu key to activate the Application Switcher

For non-touchscreen BlackBerry smartphones:

  • To Zoom In, hold the alt key while scrolling upward on the trackpad
  • To view your open browser tabs, select the Tab icon in the top right hand corner of the screen
  • To save a webpage to your home screen, go to the desired webpage, select the Globe icon in the top right hand corner of the screen. Select Add To Home Screen from the menu that appears
  • To launch a Pop-up Menu of popular actions, press and hold the trackpad from anywhere on the screen
  • View recent messages and updates from any of your contacts simply by opening their profile in Contacts
  • BlackBerry smartphones support full multitasking, so you can run multiple apps at the same time. To move quickly between apps, press and hold the Menu key to activate the Application Switcher

While BlackBerry 6 is pretty cool, it’s hard not to always want the next generation of OS. Especially after seeing the PlayBook, and hearing that the QNX OS is coming to smartphones, BlackBerry 6 is starting to look a little out-dated.

Arguably the biggest myth in all of sports says you can’t coach speed, teach athletes how to run faster or make serious improvements to multidirectional speed and agility or explosive strength and power.
