App World

The BlackBerry Knowledge Base put a pretty useful article up that we’d like to paraphrase. The guide tells you how to migrate your App World 1.0 purchases to a BlackBerry ID, to be used in App World 2.0. While most users have probably downloaded the latest version of App World, there are probably a lot of users buying new devices and wondering how to bring their purchases over. Well here is how to do it:

There are 3 situations you might find yourself in when migrating your apps:

1. During the BlackBerry ID account creation process using the same email address as the PayPal account
2. During the BlackBerry ID account creation process using a different email address then the PayPal account
3. After the BlackBerry ID account has been created

1. During the BlackBerry ID account creation process using the same email address as the PayPal account.

You can migrate your PayPal purchased apps from App World 1.0 to 2.0 using the App World client. To do this, follow these steps:

1. From within BlackBerry App World, press the Menu key and click My World.
2. If you have not gone through the BlackBerry ID account creation process yet, click Create a BlackBerry ID.
3. Review the license agreement and click I Accept to continue.
4. Review the BlackBerry App World Membership Addendum and click I Accept to continue.
5. Enter the email address you would like associated with the BlackBerry ID and a user name. The email address will be used to log in to BlackBerry App World. The user name is only used when writing reviews for applications within BlackBerry App World. You will also need to enter in a password here.
6. Next, create a Password Recovery Question and Answer. This is used in case the BlackBerry ID password is forgotten.
7. If you have previously purchased applications using PayPal in earlier versions of BlackBerry App World, select the I have previously purchased items from BlackBerry App World using PayPal check box.

After creating a BlackBerry ID account, and accepting all the legal jargon, you’ll be prompted that previous purchases have been detected and to validate your PayPal account. Click the Pay with PayPal button and complete the account validation. Once this is confirmed, you will be brought back to the BlackBerry App World storefront. This is where you can migrate all your apps.

2. During the BlackBerry ID account creation process using a different email address then the PayPal account.

In order to migrate when using a different email address than the PayPal account, you must use the desktop storefront. After creating a BlackBerry ID and again, accepting all the legal stuff, you will be presented with an option to select that you have made previous purchases using a PayPal account. Click the option Yes, I have paid for items using PayPal and then click Next to be brought to the PayPal account verification screen. Once the PayPal account verification is completed, you will be brought back to the BlackBerry App World storefront.

3. After the BlackBerry ID account has been created.

If you have already created a BlackBerry ID to use with BlackBerry App World, complete the following to migrate the previous purchases:

  • From a desktop browser, goto http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore
  • Log into your BlackBerry ID by clicking on the Sign In link in the upper right section of the page
  • Click the My Payment Options link in the upper right section of the page
  • Depending on the currently selected payment option, complete one of the following:
    1. If you have PayPal selected as the current form of payment:
      • Click the Modify link
      • Click the Pay with PayPal button
      • Enter your PayPal account details and click Login to validate the account
      • Click Approve to agree to the PayPal account association agreement
    2. If PayPal is not selected as the current form of payment:
      • Click the radio button next to the PayPal payment option, then click Next
      • Click the Pay with PayPal button
      • Enter you PayPal account details and click Login to validate the account
      • Click Approve to agree to the PayPal account association agreement
  • Once the PayPal account association has been confirmed, you will be presented with a screen listing the migrated applications
