The guys who brought you Tether are coming out with a new app called Wakeful. The app is currently in Beta and it looks pretty awesome. Wakeful helps you start your day off right by replacing the conventional alarm clock buzzer with a voice that reads out some important daily information including local weather, stock information and the day’s top headlines. Check out the above video for a brief demo.

    That’s nice but only if i get up the second my alarm goes off.. what happens when I hit snooze? They should have a feature that as soon as you turn your alarm off it says this too you while waking up!

    I think it just continues on repeat until you wake up. Again, it’s in beta so I’m sure they’ll implement a few more features. Also, I didn’t notice any snooze feature in the beta.

    Hey Kyle & Caspan! There actually is a snooze button once the alarm goes off. It will redownload and play the audio every 5 minutes until you turn off.

    Just shooting from the hip here… What would be cool is that voice starting gentle but getting louder “wake up caspan, time to get up caspan” which slowly gets louder till it’s yelling at you “hey caspan get the heck out of bed!!” You could chose male female voice old or young etc or you could chose to play your own mp3.

    If I hit snooze then it snoozes for a user settable time 5 min 15 minutes etc.. Then once I finally dismiss the alarm then it will kick in with the “good morning Caspan, weather is bla bla bla” only when I decided to get up and can sit in bed for 2 minutes waking up listening to the morning report :)

    I was a little worried at first that the app wouldn’t wake me up because I usually use the “Antelope” tone which sounds like a robot being tortured by Al Qaeda. But the sound is definitely loud enough to wake you up.

    A little trick I thought of was if you use Bedside Mode, and have your radio off, then you can set your alarm to go off just a few minutes before Wakeful so it exists Bedside Mode and turns on the radio so Wakeful can download the data from its server.
