Rumor has it that the PlayBook will become available in retail outlets on April 10th. Also, the QNX OS will go gold on March 31st, and when you take the device out of the box and first boot it up, you’ll be prompted to upgrade the OS. The 10 days isn’t much to make sure developers have a stable app on the PlayBook, but if you can test and update in App World right away, you should be good.

HP seems like they’re picking a fight with RIM over the similarities in UI design between the TouchPad and the PlayBook. Both tablets manage apps as cards, allowing you to swipe between them as they run in the background. Both tablets also have similar swipe gestures, allowing you to swipe apps off the screen. When both companies were asked to comment on the issue, things got pretty passive aggressive.

RIM has really ramped up the content on their official channels in response to some of the discussion that has been going on lately regarding developer frustrations and what the community would like to see. It’s great to see the company so open about this stuff, and it goes a long way to showing the community that they’re listening and reassuring them that these frustrations are being dealt with.
