Bplay has undergone a massive overhaul in what they’re calling version 2.0 (actually the site has been around for so long you could say it’s version 6.0). The site is looking much better and comes with a great deal more functionality. New features include:
International coverage for pay-by-mobile options! Our customers are on BlackBerry devices all around the globe, so now we’ve made it easier to bill your purchases to your phone in over 30 countries worldwide, with more countries being added all the time. No credit card? No problem!
Simplified checkout and default payment options! Enter your billing preferences once, with no need to change them until you want to, so grabbing the latest theme or a new app takes only a moment.
Enhanced device and OS detection! This launch includes our super cool device detector, which lets you quickly scan a QR code from our desktop site to tailor your shopping experience to your particular BlackBerry model and OS. Yes, we now support multiple OS versions on the same handset (hello upgraded 9700s and 9800s!).
A cleaner and faster mobile experience, re-designed from the ground up for modern mobile browsers
Tons of account management tools and easy access to your download links
Bplay is also aligning itself more with the developer requirements for App World, in the sense that they’re making it just as easy, if not more easy, to upload your app to Bplay. So if you have an app and you’d like to create a new revenue stream, ping them and submit. You’ve got nothing to lose and more revenue to potentially generate.
RIM is going to be at SXSW and so will BlackBerryCool. There probably won’t be much news on the BlackBerry side of things, and we’ll most likely get the same old PlayBook demo we’ve been seeing all over the Internet. We’ll also be covering the Interactive portion of SXSW and meeting with companies to find out what they’re up. Stay tuned on BlackBerryCool and read about some highly bloggable apps and services.
If you’re at the show, drop us a line at tips@blackberrycool.com.
The above slide shows a potential roadmap for the Bold Touch, next generation Curve, and the Torch 2. It’s not clear where the slide came from exactly, and could be T-Mobile interpretation of when they expect these products to launch. Either way, it’s interesting to see what’s in the pipeline and when these devices might arrive. How awesome would it be to have a PlayBook paired with a Bold Touch?
RIM doesn’t have a music solution like iTunes and it should actually stay that way. By leaving the content market open, RIM is allowing third parties to cash in and build innovative music apps. The BlackBerry itself is a great music player that allows you to drop your own music on it, but the device needs a lot more space than what a MicroSD card can fit to allow for more music. This is why a good cloud-based solution works best.
BlackBerry is a mostly secure platform, but information on a new Zeus Trojan that has migrated to the BlackBerry has recently been announced. In an effort to help keep you and your fellow BlackBerry users safe, we want to share the details of the trojan. According to infoseland “The malware allows remote access of infected Blackberry devices by the attacker, who can then change the SMS message default number, add a new device administrator, control blocked call lists, and even turn the device on and off. The Trojan also removes itself from the list of installed applications to avoid scanning and detection by antivirus software.”
Cert Polska reports that once the trojan is downloaded, you have a few removal options. The trojan sent the file cert.jad . Upon it’s installation, you’ll find sertificate, which is either sertificate.jar or sertificate.cod under Options -> Applications. Delete this application and reboot your phone. If this is unsuccessful or if you’d like a more thorough approach, you can do a full wipe of the device.
Stay safe out there and don’t install software via SMS unless you specifically requested it.
