Back in February we wrote about the fact that RIM had introduced the BlackBerry Trade-up program in the US and the program has now launched in Canada. Through the program, existing BlackBerry customers who purchase a new, eligible BlackBerry smartphone are qualified to receive money back for trading in their existing eligible BlackBerry smartphone.
It’s an interesting program and it looks like RIM is leveraging this sort of program for repeat customers in light of some fierce competition.

Amazon recently announced its new Kindle model which has an awfully alluring price tag of $114 – $25 cheaper than the previous base model. The only catch is that it’s filled with advertisements for products ranging from Olay to Buick to Visa. Founder and CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, said of the newly discounted model, “We’re working hard to make sure that anyone who wants a Kindle can afford one.” And the best way to do that is by using sponsored ads.
This new Kindle also comes bundled with an app called ‘AdMash’ which allows users to vote on their favorite advertisements, ultimately deciding which advertisements are featured on the device’s sponsored screensavers. The new, ad-fortified Kindle is Wi-Fi-only and will be released on May 3rd and the 3G model will also be available for $189. Vivino is a cool app from a couple of wine entrepreneurs in Denmark who have created an app with a database of over half a million bottles and 12,000 wineries throughout the world. The app has a unique spin on a wine app by offering image recognition of wine bottles. From the above video, we see some of the features include:
Identify and remember wines with image recognition.
Database of 500K wines.
Read more about the wine including description, where to buy, etc.
Like, dislike and review the wine.
Share the wine with friends.
Another cool feature of Vivino is that it’s available cross-platform on iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone 7. To download for BlackBerry, head over to vivino.com/blackberry.
With the PlayBook coming in just 1 week, RIM has began a Twitter contest where you can win one of 20 BlackBerry PlayBooks. The contest is open to residents of the US and Canada, and runs from April 11th-15th, and April 25th-29th. To enter the contest, simply write a BlackBerry related Haiku and send the tweet to @blackberry with the hashtag #PlayBookHaiku. The haiku must of course follow the 5/7/5 syllable format, and adhere to the terms and conditions.
Feel free to share your Haiku’s on this post. They aren’t counted towards an entry so make sure to also tweet.
