Fixmo Raises $6.5 Million for Enterprise Mobile Management and Protection Solution

fixmo

It’s great to hear about Canadian companies raising funds as it seems Silicon Valley seems to be eating all the cash these days. Fixmo, a company that delves in both enterprise and consumer mobile solutions and is based in Toronto, Canada, has raised $6.5 million in financing. The Series B funding round was led by new investor Panorama Capital, with existing investors Rho Ventures Canada, iNovia Capital, Extreme Venture Partners and management participating. The funding is going to help grow Fixmo’s enterprise mobile management and protection solutions business which was all the rage at BlackBerry World this year.

The Fixmo solution provides device assurance, policy compliance, and device audit solutions, as well as tools that allow enterprises to manage their entire mobile infrastructure, end-to-end, through a single interface. It also probably helps that the Co-Founder and CEO Rick Segal is well versed in raising capital, as he used to be with the BlackBerry Partners Fund.

Choose Your Favorite Smartphone and Donate to Fight Global Poverty

choose for change

A new website developed by a group of engineering students and former Facebook and Microsoft employees called ChooseForChange.com is looking for people to choose their favorite smartphone and donate to help fight global poverty. The goal is to raise money for the World Partnership Walk, whose funds go directly to international development projects supported by the Aga Khan Foundation Canada.

It’s a fun idea and if you’re interested in donating to the cause, perhaps it makes more sense just to donate directly to the Aga Khan Foundation and get straight to where the funds will end up eventually. Or, if you’d like to support your favorite smartphone brand, you can always head over to ChooseForChange.com.

UPDATE: Spoke to the PR team and they said “The reason we wanted to build awareness about World Partnership Walk was because it is an event that is held across Canada annually. We wanted the external community to become a part of this and have the opportunity to take part. The World Partnership Walk is only affiliated with the Aga Khan Foundation so 100% of the proceeds will go directly there anyways.”

global alert network

Global Alert Network has created a free app that gives you emergency updates, traffic alerts and weather info that you can access safely, even while in the car via hands-free audio alert. The app uses your device’s GPS to give you location-relevant alerts that are automatic, meaning one you download the app and set the alerts, you’re done. You don’t have to touch or interact with the device any further making it like those “set and forget it” cookers.

Facebook for BlackBerry Version 2.0 Beta 3 Now Available in Beta Zone

facebook version 2

RIM has announced Facebook for BlackBerry version 2.0 Beta 3 and it’s available for download in the Beta Zone. The biggest update here is the ability to delete posts. This is a decent feature that was needed, but is it really necessary to launch it in the beta zone first? It seems that’s one of the downsides to a big company like RIM making the software: they act like a big company. Remember Guy Kawasaki’s rule: don’t worry be crappy. Just push it out and update. Anyways, the features in this release include:

  • WiFi support
  • The ability to delete comments and posts
  • New delete prompts

To download the latest version of Facebook, head over to the Beta Zone.
