The Verizon BlackBerry Bold Touch Demo Could Be Better

The app download is shown at 0:54

The Verizon Bold Touch has been showing up around the Internet but what’s annoying about the demo is that even while the Verizon rep is touting the Bold Touch’s “super fast speeds” and “lightning quick processor”, the video still shows an hourglass while downloading a simple flashlight app. The app downloading process on the PlayBook is awesome and we’re really looking forward to QNX on a smartphone, and it just seems a little lame that we’re still dealing with these setbacks. The app shown in the demo is The Jared Company’s One Touch Flashlight which is only 22Kb in size. Now, we’re not going to rag on the device like it’s going to be bad or anything as the device isn’t even out yet. But Verizon seems to have dropped the ball on this demo as OS 7 doesn’t look to be that further ahead of BlackBerry 6. Even the pinch to zoom and vertical scrolling didn’t seem that smooth.

Do you think Verizon did a good job selling you on OS 7?

For a company as big as Verizon, i’m surprised to see such a hokey video…

    Fail!

haha… the same 1980ish hourglass in OS 7????

there is still something fishy with this ‘high end’ phone and the media/stock bloodbath RIM has been dealing with for the past 6mo was foreseeable 1-2 years ago, unless you have been living under a rock….

maybe QNX-powered phones will save the sinking ship, but the negative press associated with a legacy OS will take some time to heal from….

The demo could be better… BUT OS7 NEEDED TO BE IMPECCABLE.

    its not.

I’ve never seen someone hit the keys with their index: BlackBerry likes thumbs!

Is this some sort of joke?  This home video quality is barely fit for YouTube – much less to market RIM’s premier smartphone.

    Oh, dear.

Although I had a chance to play around with a 9900 in Orlando and was impressed with the touch screen’s responsiveness, this video makes it seems kind of choppy. I’d be a little embarrassed if I worked for Verizon.

Also – the way he’s holding the phone with his left hand makes me uncomfortable.

This just goes to show you, the carriers are going to be the death of RIM. Apple would have had Verizon iPhones taken off the shelfs if something like this was released.

RIM if you are reading this… Make sure when you get QNX out the door make sure you are in full control and you are able to directly talk to your customers.
