There’s a lot of talk about the fight between Apple and Samsung over patents and according to an unnamed senior executive at Samsung, the company plans to file suit against Apple as soon as the iPhone 5 is released in Korea. BlackBerry has been making a pretty big push into Korea lately with the Torch and Bold products, and this fight could easily tip smartphone sales in RIM’s favor. More after the jump.

The Korea Times reports the unnamed Samsung Executive claims:
“For as long as Apple does not drop mobile telecommunications functions, it would be impossible for it to sell its i-branded products without using our patents. We will stick to a strong stance against Apple during the lingering legal fights.’’
RIM should be prepared to take advantage of these legal disputes. If lawmakers are going to start pulling iPhone 5′s off the shelves, it would make sense to offer huge discounts on BlackBerry products. Maybe RIM could capitalize on the customer retention of BBM and make even more gains in South Korea.
