RIM is celebrating 70 million BlackBerry users. The number of users is pretty staggering and RIM has put together a cool video showing the many ways that people have been using their BlackBerry. While iPhone commercials will promote apps and Android will promote its processor power, BlackBerry’s advantage is connecting people around the world reliably. More after the break.
The video really gives you the impression that no other smartphone connects people in the way that a BlackBerry does. BBM is still the most reliable messaging service on mobile today. There’s always someone coming out and saying that a new IM app is challenging BBM but it will never have the same reliability as BBM.
There’s a few use-cases missing in this video that we would have liked to see highlighted. For example, we know many people go with BlackBerry because it’s an affordable smartphone that gives them internet coverage where ground lines don’t otherwise exist. Also, delivery services use BlackBerrys to track and deliver shipments. It was cool to see the PlayBook in the video but it didn’t really give you the sense of its purpose. RIM could have shown insurance companies using the PlayBook to capture signatures on agreements and receiving payments right away.
It’s great to see BlackBerry hit the 70 million mark and we’re confident it will keep growing.
