This week we’re taking a look at what’s new and what’s hot on the three major smartphone platforms, Android, iOS, and BlackBerry. Be sure to let us know if you’ve tried out any of these apps or games, or if you have an app or game you’d like us to review. Developers – keep your eye on these roundups for inspiration. More after the jump.

iOS

Affogato

affogato

Wannabe coffee aficionados, your go-to app has arrived. Full of information about different types of coffee, how to make the perfect cup of joe, and how to speak that confusing ‘coffee shop lingo,’ the Affogato app has everything you need to know about the black gold. I’ll take one venti 1-pump vanilla soy non-fat, no foam iced caffe latte to go, please!

Spades King

spadesking

This is an older title from Magmic that just received a huge boost and redesign of the game play. The greatest feature in Spades King is the new multi-player feature. Since most people complain about predictable AI in games like this, having the mutli-player feature is great. It also has Game Center integration so you can invite your friends to play with you. Magmic has kept with their tradition and released another top-notch mobile card game.

Android

Dragon, Fly!

dragon, fly!

Dragon, Fly! is quite clearly a Tiny Wings knock-off, but it’s still a fun game. Instead of racing against the approaching darkness, you’re a newborn dragon with an insatiable wander lust, and you’re being chased by your worrisome dragon-mommy who wants you back in the nest as soon as possible. It’s a cute, pick-up-and-play game that’s worth the download.

Flick Golf!

I never realized how popular mobile golf games were until I saw a guy playing this one on his Android phone on the bus the other day. The graphics are exactly what you’d expect on an awesome Android device. There are different modes called QuickPlay and Career Mode, accurate spin-control, and the title of possibly the most addictive golf game every created.

BlackBerry

Bubble Birds

bubble birds by ximad

It’s a classic puzzle style game of shooting and matching 3 or more items of the same colour to make them disappear. In this case, the coloured items are birds, and when they explode into a burst of feathers, you earn points. There are lots of level, so you’re able to waste hours watching birds explode. Because it’s a super simple game, it’s great for kids as well as adults. Also available for the BlackBerry PlayBook.

Rock City Empire

rock city empire

Create, manage, and grow a rock club. With in-depth gameplay features like hiring staff, booking rock bands, and purchasing flashy show additions such as pyrotechnics, you get to work your way to the top of the music club circuit and because a famous promoter. It’s pretty fun life-simulator, and like all content from Digital Chocolate, it never fails to entertain.
