Reality Check: BlackBerrys Are Workhorses And iPhones Are Show Ponies

Media agencies and bloggers on all sides of the tech world have been absolutely vicious when it comes to covering RIM these days. The coverage blames RIM for missing this, failing at that, and for not being Apple for reasons x,y, and z. Is this fair? Is it really that bad? After having attended DevCon and seeing the latest and greatest on the development side of BlackBerry, my impression of RIM remains positive and progressive.

Policing with PlayBooks: A Case for RIM’s Enterprise Tablet

Police cruisers in Canada may soon be outfitted with BlackBerry PlayBooks. That’s why Mobile Innovations, a Niagara Falls based company dedicated to enhancing law enforcement through mobile technology, has been touring the north-east showcasing their PlayBook equipped Dodge Charger demo vehicle. Gary Bauer, CEO of Mobile Innovations, has been personally driving the demo vehicle from agency to agency and he says that the interest is huge everywhere he shows up. Gary jokes that when he pulls in cops put down their doughnuts and pickup the PlayBooks.

5 Things We Would Have Loved to See at DevCon 2011

DevCon has wrapped up from last week and we’re just catching up now. The show was definitely interesting from a developer point of view, but one can’t help but compare it to the last DevCon when the PlayBook was announced. The problem is that there is inconsistency, and when you use a conference to launch a consumer product, it sets the tone for the next. Here are some things we would have loved to see this year, if it was more of a consumer-centric show.

RIM Announces BlackBerry Business Cloud Services for Microsoft Office 365

RIM has announced their plan to offer BlackBerry Business Cloud Services for Microsoft Office 365. This new RIM-hosted online service is geared toward midsized businesses and the enterprise market. The service allows organizations to manage their own BlackBerry deployments in the cloud.

RIM Announces a Pair of Free Gameloft Games for Loyalty Giveaway

In appreciation for BlackBerry users’ loyalty through the recent service outages, RIM has rolled another set of its free premium apps that will continue to be released over the next month and remain free of charge until the end of 2011. This installment features a pair of games from Gameloft: the action shooter N.O.V.A. and Poker game Texas Hold ‘em Poker 2.
