Today, Opera released the latest version of Opera Mini. If you’re looking for an alternative to the native BlackBerry browser, I recommend checking it out. I had the chance to meet with Mahi de Silva, EVP of Consumer Mobile, at the Open Mobile Summit being held in San Francisco. We spoke at length about how Opera has been providing browsing capabilities worldwide for over 15 years. What really impressed me with the latest version of Opera was the browsers data optimization features.

Opera Mini 6.5 Released for BlackBerry
RIM has launched a music service for BlackBerry Messenger called BBM music. BBM Music is free for the first 60 days, runs on a subscription model and is designed to be more rewarding the more friends you have connected to the service.
In appreciation for BlackBerry users’ loyalty through the recent service outages, RIM has rolled another set of its free premium apps that will continue to be released over the next month and remain free of charge until the end of 2011. This wave of free premium apps includes mobile game hit Bejeweled and music app Shazam Encore.

Evernote is a note taking and sharing app for phones, tablets and PCs. The latest version now includes the ability to save new notes, a feature that was absent in earlier versions of the Playbook app.

Not too long ago we covered the BBM Hackathon in NYC and it was a great start to what would become a global series of events. The hackathon brings together developers who have an idea for an app, or would like to build an app, and can collaborate with other developers to get their app completed. It’s also a great motivator, as you can leave the event with an app that could begin to generate you some dollars. More details after the jump.
