VeloCity, the University of Waterloo’s student startup incubator program has added two experienced staffers to their team. Mike Kirkup of RIM developer relations fame will be VeloCity’s new Director and Brett Shellhammer will be bringing his startup and Silicon Valley experience to the role of Executive In Residence.
Mike Kirkup will be bringing his decade of experience as senior director of global developer relations at RIM to the VeloCity team. Mike’s key focus will be advising startups on business development in both government and corporate landscapes and well as venture capital.
Silicon Valley and startup veteran Brett Shellhammer will be bringing his wealth of knowledge and 16 years’ experience to VeloCity. Brett has already been working with VeloCity over the past year and his new position of Executive In Residence will allow him to advise even more student-led startups.
It looks like the University of Waterloo is fostering a great tech ecosystem for students. With so many tech companies and startups nearby it’s an ideal place for young programmers and entrepreneurs to break in to the industry.
