Show Off Your Awesome New BBM Profile With Animated Avatar by Mblware

One of the awesome features of the latest version of BBM is that you can use animated avatars. With Avatar Animator, a new app by mblware, you can get your own animated avatar for BBM. GIFs are a great way to express yourself and since there are very specific guidelines when using an animated GIF in your BBM profile, Avatar Animator scales animations to the proper specs. With Avatar Animator, you can set everything up quickly and easily. It may even work for Twitter (we have yet to test).

Carleton University and RIM Launch Teaching and Collaborative Research Centre [#Ottawa]

Ottawa’s Carleton University has partnered with RIM to launch what is being called the Teaching and Collaborative Research Centre. The goal of the centre to provide students an opportunity to “explore new possibilities in wireless communications and application development.” The centre will be used for research, teaching, outreach activities, technology demonstrations, and short courses. The centre will also work to keep engineering and industrial design students “at the forefront of smartphone technology and design.”

Free Backlight Control App: Backlight On for BlackBerry

Backlight On is a free backlight control app by Ostwald Designs that lets you choose which apps have no backlight timeout causing your BlackBerry to go dark with no input. Sort of similar to how the BlackBerry OS already treats the first-party video player: the backlight will stay on until the video is over.

Recently, the app added filesharing over WiFi which allows you to share files between your BlackBerry and your Desktop without even paying for the app (it’s available for FileScoutLite users).
