RIM, Canrock, OMERS, Rho, BDC, iNovia and CYBF Invest $30M+ in Tech Startup Incubator Program HYPERDRIVE

Startup incubators are a great way for tech entrepreneurs to take something from idea to product and beyond. The programs generally give funding, mentorship and access to services that help entrepreneurs develop a great company that could potentially be the next big thing. Recently, a new incubator called HYPERDRIVE has launched with $30M+ in funding. It’s also really cool to see RIM as the only technology company funding, hopefully giving them first dibs on acquisitions. Especially since Google has its name on the building and is an anchor tenant at Communitech.

iOS Gets Preferential Treatment in Twitter Streams With “View App” Feature

Here’s something you may or may not have noticed: Apple is the only smartphone company that Twitter helps promote downloads by augmenting tweets that point to the App Store. App Discovery for iOS apps happens right in the Twitter stream by allowing users to click a “View App” button and then look at screenshots, a description and the icon of the app before clicking through to the App Store. Twitter and Apple have a great relationship, and Apple has implemented a lot of native Twitter sharing in its OS, but so has BlackBerry. If fact, BlackBerry is probably responsible for more Twitter user sign-ups than Apple, and yet BlackBerry App World doesn’t get the same treatment. Android and Windows Phone app tweets are also not augmented by Twitter.

New BlackBerry 7 Compatible Theme Studio Coming Soon

Here’s a tip from a member of the BlackBerry theme building community: RIM will be releasing a new version of Theme Studio sometime this early summer giving theme developers lots more options when creating BlackBerry 7 themes.
