In a move obvious to those whose emails can be requested through the freedom of information act, New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo favors communicating to his staff over PIN to PIN BlackBerry Messaging or directly over the phone avoiding email altogether.

During his campaign he promised transparency in government so there’s been some criticism for Governor Cuomo utilizing a private and secure communications network. His office has however, managed to reduce all requests to hand over his email communications via the Freedom of Information Act to a mere memo explaining that no such records exist.
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver also uses BlackBerry PIN to PIN messages instead of email. While others in Politics have not totally abandoned email, the BlackBerry has established itself as an indispensable secure communications tool that’s cheap enough to hand to an intern.
