During the keynotes at BlackBerry Jam Americas, Don Lindsay took the stage to talk about BlackBerry 10′s User Experience and Interface design. Lindsay has an interesting background as he was Design Director at Microsoft Live Labs and Design Director of Mac OS User Experience Group at Apple. If RIM is going to have a competitive smartphone user experience, he’s definitely the man to help get the job done. Lindsay explained the origins of Peek and it’s a really cool story.

BlackBerry Jam Americas is coming along really nicely. There’s some excellent updates for developers including updated tools, a new BlackBerry Dev Alpha device and a BlackBerry 10 upgrade to the Dev Alphas that includes some amazing new features. From a developer’s perspective, the pieces are all falling into place and the puzzle is almost complete. But there’s one major question that’s still on everyone’s mind: what is RIM’s marketing strategy for BlackBerry 10 in order to get the users.

RIM has done an incredible job embracing social media. The @blackberry Twitter account has over 1 million followers and there’s a network of blogs providing the community with relevant news, tips and updates. The social media team seems mostly focused on providing information that’s based around BlackBerry hardware, but it’s really missing an opportunity to promote developers and the people who are going to make this platform succeed.
