India’s Telecom Minister Considers Data-Based Mobile Billing


While mobile carriers around the world continue to charge ultra-premium rates for SMS and voice data, India considers the advantages of making all mobile data neutral. Is this the beginning of the end for wildly inflated data rates and tiered mobile internet?

While speaking at the CII Broadband Summit, India’s Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal said that the future of competitive mobile billing should be based on how much data is used, not what the data contains. North america is just beginning it’s struggles with a neutral mobile internet. Some carriers even go so far as to blacklist free features so as to sell their own solution.
