RIM has announced their partnership with 7digital to handle music services for BlackBerry 10. 7digital is a privately held UK based company that provides music, video and ebooks.
7digital already powers the music store on legacy BlackBerry devices and BlackBerry PlayBook. They’ve got lots of experience with BlackBerry PlayBook UX as well as the baked-in social functionality that drive social recommendations. I currently see plenty of people on my BBM list that share what music they’re currently listening to.
I’m really hoping that they re-imagine the BlackBerry Music subscription service. With the BlackBerry 10 browser being able to handle most of the free web-based music services, it’ll be RIM’s own browser that will cannibalize a lot of music and subscription sales.
