Wolfram|Alpha is computational knowledge engine developed by Wolfram Research of Mathematica fame. The plan is for BlackBerry 10 users to do voice queries a-la Siri with answers provided by Wolfram Alpha’s incredible Answer Engine.

PinGuin Wins 1st Place at Cambridge BlackBerry Jam Camp

BlackBerry Jam Camp is two days of intensive training on the BlackBerry 10 platform. During the event, you get training and at the end, you’re in a position to submit an application and get certified with the Built for BlackBerry stamp. This summer, BlackBerry Jam Camp attendees in Cambridge/Waterloo, competed for the best app and the results are in. PinGuin won 1st place, with Diaree second and Track a Pack third. With Can You Dig It, you can search a catalog of 4500+ rare soul 45s, with access to label scans, YouTube videos and pricing. The app was created by Scott Birksted, a developer at BlackBerry on the App World team. It’s cool to see BlackBerry employees getting behind the platform and making their own apps. BBM Channels Beta Review: BlackBerry’s Monetization Strategy for BBM

BlackBerry is ramping up BlackBerry Channels and it looks like it’s going to be the monetization tool for BBM. While WhatsApp charges $0.99 per year, it seems BlackBerry is going to find an alternative monetization strategy by leveraging brands and possibly advertising in the BBM Channels network. Perhaps this has nothing to do with monetization, but that’s our best guess and we’re sticking to it. So what is it going to take for BBM Channels to be a successful cross-platform content network? BlackBerry Wins “Most Usable Mobile Platform on the Market” Debate

Okay, BlackBerry didn’t really win. I just took the credit for all their hard work and won a local debate. The crowd voted by applause at CapCHI Ottawa recently, in a debate about the most usable OS. The debate statement, “Be it Resolved That [My Chosen Mobile Platform] is the Most Usable Mobile Platform on the Market” was presented with 4 local debaters all representing their respective OS. Aaron Levie, CEO of Box, Says It’s Not Investing in BlackBerry Platform Going Forward

Box is an interesting partner for BlackBerry as the company addresses 2 key areas of the platform: cloud storage and enterprise. As Box moves increasingly into the cloud storage for enterprise space, it becomes a more critical partner of BlackBerry’s and at launch, Box seemed to be totally on board. According to the CEO, this isn’t going to be the case going forward and they aren’t going to be investing more in the platform.
