Telus and Bell Blackberry Unlock Codes Get more Complicated

Comment

The Bell Blackberry Bold 9700 has a new lock on it called the Service Provider (SP) lock. Both the original “Network” lock aka MEP2, and the new SP lock aka MEP4, are needed to unlock the Bell 9700 now. We’ve found 2 methods to do it and blogged about it on our site.

Through the eyes of a cell phone unlocker, it seems that RIM is always making an effort to tighten security on their new Blackberry devices. This time it has gone beyond RIM, with Bell and soon TELUS adding new locks on their Blackberry phones.

We like to call them “MEP4? locks instead the old MEP2 that we’ve grown so fond of. It has already been implemented on the Bell 9700 which has 2 locks – the network lock and the Service Provider (SP) lock. Unlock code developers, crackers and hackers are still in the process of developing a quick and “Instant” method for unlocking these MEP4 codes. Although we are able to unlock the Bell Blackberry Bold 9700, it’s interesting to see that RIM, Rogers and T-mobile are still using MEP2 codes for the Rogers Blackberry Bold 9700 and T-mobile Blackberry Bold 9700.

Kathy Buckworth shares some BlackBerry parenting tips

Comments

The BlackBerry Diaries

Kathy Buckworth has a book coming out that BlackBerry moms are sure to love. Traveling and taking care of her two young ones (and 2 teenagers) over the years, Kathy has compiled a host of tips and tricks for keeping the kids entertained and staying organized as a busy mother. Her book, The BlackBerry Diaries: Adventures in Modern Motherhood, is a funny tale of how a mother of two and technology meet.

Here are some of Kathy’s tips for BlackBerry moms:

What to do during down time:

  • Organize your ToDo list (make sure to get that pedicure on there!)
  • Check the traffic on your local news station’s website (shortest route to take screaming kids is a good thing)
  • Investigate the hottest BlackBerry applications on BlackBerry World (a new game, a calorie counter, you never know)
  • Send a text or email to your teen to remind them of their chores. Cybernagging at its best.
  • Google where to buy those specific dance tights. The show is tomorrow – put it in your calendar!

Some random examples of how your BlackBerry can help with parenting:

  • Using the soft glow of your BlackBerry screen to check on a sleeping baby without waking them up. Shhhh!
  • Downloading the Flashlight app is a huge help in entertaining the kids during a power outage.

Are you experiencing problems with BlackBerry App World?

Comments

bbappworlderror1

UPDATE: We’re hearing that the issue may have been corrected, but there was definitely an interruption in service for some.

Lucas over at BBleaks is reporting that BlackBerry App World is down. I’ve tried it myself on AT&T here in California and it seems to be working fine. Lucas is running on the Verizon network and they have also tested it on AT&T.

It seems the problem isn’t about the network, but possibly a node somewhere in the RIM network.

How is your App World doing? Sound off!

Widality President and Momentem developer talks lessons learned

Comment

091024 no1 business app screenshot

As the developer of one of the most popular business category apps on BlackBerry App World – “Call Time Tracker by momentem” – Terry has learned a lot about how to build a compelling app. In this article, he talks about how he spends his day, and there are some valuable lessons in this article for all app developers.

Terry writes:

After users download our app, they have to enter their email address to sign up for our free service. These days, most people are wary of doing that, so to overcome that our description on App World has to be sufficiently friendly and credible; the end result is that 70% of all downloads sign up for the service with a valid email address, which we believe is industry-leading.
