Today we’re going to look at the Garmin Mobile XT GPS solution for Blackberry, as well as their Mobile 10 GPS puck. Not to be confused with a hockey puck, the Garmin puck gives GPS capabilities to non-GPS Blackberry devices, so pretty much every Blackberry not called the 7520 and 8800. The review will be a two-parter: today I’ll be focusing on an overview of the puck and the XT solution, and sometime next week I’ll write about the performance.

There’s several ways to get YouTube videos on your Blackberry. The basic idea is just to find a program that will download the videos from YouTube in flash format and then convert it into a format that can be viewed on your Blackberry like mpeg-4. It’s a bit of a process so today I’m going to show you how to use a website called tinytube.net to download and watch YouTube videos directly from your browser.
The idea behind tinytube.net is to provide access to mobile users to videos hosted on youtube, daily motion, and various other video sites. It is mainly catered towards typical cell phone with Blackberry users a bit of an afterthought, because the streaming feature doesn’t work and videos are formatted about a quarter the size of your Blackberry screen. Which isn’t that bad because it keeps file sizes down.
Instructions are below to view, download and save video files on supported Blackberry models.
(Note: I couldn’t grab screenshots of the video because the program provided by RIM doesn’t support screencapture of videos.)

I love the fact that RIM has opened up to the consumer/prosumer market. It has brought in a lot of new features that enterprise users could care less about like a video player, full mp3 support, polyphonic ringtones, camera, and the ability to download customized themes.
We first saw the ability to change themes in OS 4.0 with the 7100t. It was a big jump from just being able to change the background image of your home screen. From there on, it didn’t take long for the blackberry community to come out with a wide range of custom styles, ranging from the really bad to the very poor.
So the following list are my top 5 favorite themes and good places to find them so you don’t have to waste your time weeding through the garbage. This list pertains to only 8100 themes, so it may not be available if you’re using another device.
#1 BB Dimensions Today Plus
This theme is hot, RIM totally ripped off the idea from BBToday but I’m not complaining. It’s great because it puts the three most important programs as the main screen and then displays any new items below that. For example, if you have a new email it will not only show that you have 1 new email but will show the sender and part of the subject line.
For this theme you can go to http://mobile.blackberry.com to download OTA.

Ok enough with all this financial talk, it’s time to bring the technology and reviews back to BlackBerry Cool. It’s been awhile since a good review or how-to has gone up, so the powers to be at BBCool asked yours truly, kid doofus, if I was interested in contributing to make the site even better. Of course I couldn’t pass up the opportunity, and I will be popping up every once in awhile.
I had a review all lined up for the Garmin Mobile XT GPS Puck that looks slick but I have no idea if it’s any good because they mistakenly sent me the one for Palm/Windows Mobile. It’s all good though, the right version is on the way and hopefully I’ll get that review up for faithful BBCool readers next week.
Also if anyone that is reading this that think it will be awesome to have their products reviewed on BBCool by kid doofus, please send it because I love free stuff.
