Weekly Contest: “What was WES for you?”

Comments

We survived John Mayer. We ran around like wild men. We live blogged Mikey and the Jim-Dog. We podcasted with carriers, industry analysts, and AAA BlackBerry developers. Simon interviewed every company, ever. We were the most visible BlackBerry news site at WES. Everybody wanted one of our tee shirts and an invite to our exclusive poker game (next time, we promise). We even freaking blogged while walking. Essentially, we kicked butt to provide the BlackBerry Nation with the best WES coverage and established BlackBerry Cool as the #1 BlackBerry news site on the web. Period.

Now, we want to hear from you, our readers. What was the WES experience for you? What piece of news, editorial, or video defined the show? If you were there, who did you meet or what did you see (cough, BlackBerry Bold, cough) that made it all worth while? Post a comment and let us know. The person who best describes the WES experience will win a Viigo WES ‘08 bag jam-packed with some special schwag, including one of those popular BBCool tee shirts everyone has been raving about.

Rove just gave away $1000! Would YOU like to win $1000?

Rove Prize Winner Jeff KucajThis is fresh off the press folks: a friend at Rove just told me that they’ve given away their first of three $1000 Amazon.com gift certificates to one Jeff Kucaj, who was lucky enough to have the key that fit the magic box. There are still two keys left, so make sure to stop by their booth (#248).

Of course, if your key doesn’t fit, you still have another way to make a quick grand by participating in Chalk’s ‘How much do you love your BlackBerry?’ contest. Head to booth 114 for more info on how you can win.

Not at WES? Don’t worry! You can still win a sweet BlackBerry Cool prize pack. READ THIS POST to find out how easy it is to win.

SPECIAL WES 08 CONTEST: How Much Do You Love Your BlackBerry?

Comment

BlackBerry LovinOur buddies at Chalk have a great contest lined up for WES, where attendees can send in pictures showing their devotion to the little mobiles from Waterloo that rule our lives (or at least our thumbs). Some of the samples they’re showing off include some racy bedside photography, happy marriages, and states of Zen-like calmness facilitated by BlackBerry.

The prize is a cool $1000 in cold cash, but is available only for WES attendees, which is a bit of a bum deal… but not to fret, BBCool is running the at-home side of things, so y’all don’t feel left out. We’ll be giving out an awesome prize pack chock-full of software and accessories to the reader who can best show off their BlackBerry love in picture format. If you’ll be at WES, be sure to pick up a copy of Rolling Phone at booth 114 to see how you can win $1000 or have a shot at the random $500 draw. Don’t get too down if you can’t make it to the show - just fire up the camera, get your Klondike Bar groove on, drop a comment with a link to your picture (Photobucket and Flickr are always good options) and enjoy the WES coverage.

Weekly Contest: Go Team, Go!

PyramidThis week we’re calling out to all of the sports fans out there. The geekery of BlackBerrys and the machismo of sports might look like a weird cross-section, but ESPN and MLB recognize a growing popularity. So, sports fans, let’s hear when your BlackBerry came in handiest when it comes to sports - maybe you were able to win a bet by finding scores from a recent game, maybe your BlackBerry helped avoid having to leave the court for work, maybe you got some great split-second pictures on the camera. Leave a comment, and win 3 themes from Bplay, including their recently-launched College themes

Gotta apologize for the lack of posting today… BBCool HQ underwent a move to a new office! As for the podcast, it should be going up tomorrow.

Weekly Contest: Worst. Flight. Ever.

Comments

Flight of the Living DeadWe talked last month about some of the more idyllic travel destinations, and how BlackBerry helped you out in those exotic locales, but, as we’ve seen, sometimes things don’t go quite as planned. Everyone’s missed a flight, or at least came close to it, or botched hotel reservations, or got completely lost in a foreign city. Well, let’s hear your worst travel story, and how your BlackBerry helped (or ruined) everything. I always think of Max the Road Warrior when it comes to missing flights, and accordingly, we’re going to give away 6 months of WorldMate Live Gold for the best travel horror story, especially if it involves a plane full of zombies.

Weekly Contest: The Post-9000 Wishlist

BlackBerry 9000With the potential of a front-facing video camera, and the confirmation of a 9100 model in the wings, you gotta wonder what iterations will follow the newest generation of BlackBerry. Wi-Fi, GPS and 3G defined the progression of the 8000 series across its three tracks (Pearl, Curve and 8800), but if the rumored features stick, all of those will be included in the base model. This leaves the question: what features will come after launch? Is a video camera going to be held out for the 9100, or will the old designations stick, resulting in a SureType device like the Pearl? Will CDMA get any more love with this series, perhaps with a few more dual-mode models? You might even want to check out one of our older contests for some inspiration… Let’s hear what you guys want to see in the coming months from the 9000 series, and win Bplay’s recently-launched Texas Hold’Em King 3, along with two other games of your choice, and three BlackBerry skins from DecalGirl.

Weekly Contest: Lifesaver

Comments

LifeSaverA lot of us use BlackBerrys to pretty mundane ends: daily e-mails, maybe check some news, fart around on a game while waiting for the bus, call home and see what’s for supper, the usual - but every once in awhile something comes up, and you thank every god you can think of that you’ve got your BlackBerry handy. Both Dave and Jeff had some extraordinary experiences with their devices, and there are sure to be plenty of other stories out there. So go on, tell us when you were most thankful to have your BlackBerry handy. Maybe you were able to grab a split-second picture of a robber with your Curve, maybe some speedy mobile browsing found a new restaurant just in time to save a date gone south, maybe your integrated GPS helped some tourists find their way to the hotel late at night… Whatever your story is, let’s hear it, and the best one will get an OtterBox of choice to make sure your BlackBerry’s working when you need it most.

Weekly Contest: Showing CDMA Love

TowerCTIA started off with a bang this year, announcing the BlackBerry 8330 across three carriers, the latest CDMA BlackBerry since the 8130 over Christmas. The majority of BlackBerrys (and handsets in general) run on GSM networks, but with these devices toting EV-DO capabilities for blazing data transfer, and with enhancements to voice service on the way, CDMA is a solid choice for carriers. Of course, a big part of the impetus is on manufacturers like RIM to make devices which support the underdog technology, without which service providers have nothing to show customers. What do you think? Is RIM showing CDMA enough love? The Curve’s been out since early last summer, and only now, on the brink of a new generation of 3GSM BlackBerrys, are the likes of Verizon, Telus and Sprint getting their hands on it. Maybe we’re lucky that CDMA is getting a bone thrown their way at all, but would it be that hard to squeeze out a Wi-Fi BlackBerry for CDMA users, or would it not even be worth RIM’s trouble? Give us your take on the CDMA/GSM debate and win three BlackBerry skins of your choice from DecalGirl, and the recently-launched Guitar Hero 3 Mobile!

Weekly Contest: The Waiting Game

Comments

BlackBerry 9000So, we got some nice new piccies of the BlackBerry 9000, paired up with a potential delay until the summer. Hype is a tricky thing to play with; if you drag it out too long, or give away too many details, you risk blowing all the excitement before the main event. The first looks at the BlackBerry 9000 were back in October, and with a rumored delay, we might not be seeing it until the summer. That’s a ten month wait for 3G and a facelift - the big question here? Is it worth the wait? There are plenty of 3G, QWERTY-keypadded handhelds out there already; are the incremental upgrades to BlackBerry’s lineup quick enough to stay competitive? Give us your take on waiting for the BlackBerry 9000, and you can win Bplay’s latest two releases, Sushi Mania and Big Kahuna Words to pass the time until the damn thing comes out. Just for kicks, let’s throw in Crossbar, one of the slickest themes to come out of Bplay yet.

Weekly Contest: Bon Voyage

Comments

Bon VoyageLast week we talked a bit about going where no BlackBerrys had gone before, mostly to hilariously dangerous consequences. Of course, not all the places you’ve taken your BlackBerry are threats to its structural integrity - maybe you’ve shot out a few e-mails from the Sahara, or taken a call from Mount Everest (I hear the reception’s pretty good), or grabbed a few snaps in the Arctic with your Curve. Wherever you’ve been, let’s hear the most exotic place you’ve used your BlackBerry. The winner will get 6 months of Gold service from WorldMate Live to set them up on their next trip.
