Rove busted out PCMobilizr this week, and being locals to our neck of the woods, we felt just a little obliged to give the trial a run. PCMobilizr is an app that’s installed on both handheld and BlackBerry, and lets you remotely gain PC access whereever you are. There’s not much to it, so we thought we’d let a video do the talking.
Be sure to check out this week’s podcast for more background on PCMobilizr and its launch.
We talked with Patrick Rousseau from BlackLine back at WES, and now we’ve had a chance to give their products a go. GPS was a big thing at WES, which worked out well for BlackLine, since they were finalizing their location sharing service at the time. Blip is software for your BlackBerry 8800 which not only allows you to share your location with friends through Google Maps, but it also lets you track BlackLine’s GPS puck, Snitch, from your handheld. The web-based client for Blip accessed through BlackLine’s website gives you a few more functions and account management, and is where your friends can do their tracking. The GPS Snitch offers e-mail alerts whenever it moves and the alarm is set, mainly so you’ll know if your car’s being stolen and can quickly find the ne’er-do-well’s GPS coordinates. We’ll be looking at all three (web client, BlackBerry client and GPS puck) for this review, so let’s get crackin’.
Even when we’re on vacation, the BBCool staff is still hard at work. That’s why when BBCool Simon went for a little R&R a few weeks back, we tasked him with reviewing the SideWinder mobile charger. Not only that, we made him film it! For those not interested in 3 minutes of Simon, we also made him do a full text review. Some vacation!
Not really news so much as a little Friday fun coming our way via YouTube. In a recent newscast covering the Republican primaries, the Fox team attempts to explain the high vote turnout for Rep. Ron Paul as due to the voting medium: text messaging. Pretty regular stuff, except for when the conversation turns in the last 45 seconds to a discussion of text messaging itself, where the entire crew displays their ignorance of the medium — even the guy with the BlackBerry.
While cellular text messaging is mostly the purview of the young, it’s interesting to see people within the age bracket of the average BlackBerry user (and BlackBerry Cool reader, for that matter) struggling with something we do every day.
Here’s a little home movie for you, pals. A while back, members of the BlackBerry Cool team made a little road trip to the offices of iotum, makers of the Talk-Now application we love so much. Alec Saunders, CEO and all around cool guy, was kind enough to give us a tour, an interview, and a great run-through of the application that we swear will change the way businesses use their BlackBerry devices.
See why we’ve been gushing so much and check out “BlackBerry Cool visits iotum” after the jump. Thanks again, guys, for opening your doors.
Pop some popcorn, folks. It’s time for another video from the “BBCool How To” series. This time we’re showing you how some Swarovski crystals can change the way you look at your BlackBerry - literally. This process is a little more time consuming than the woodgraining we did earlier, but as always, the end result makes it all worthwhile. Big thanks to our BBCool staffer who put all of this together. Check out the video after the jump.
