Voice Command can be a really annoying feature when it gets activated accidentally, but it’s also very helpful whenever you need some hands-free dialing. Voice dialing isn’t the only thing you can do with it though. Other commands include:
“Call Extension” will call a specific extension.
“Call [Contact Name] Home” will call the contact at their home number.
“Check Battery” will check the battery status.
“Check Signal” will let you know the strength of your wireless signal and whether or not you have “No Signal”, “Low Signal”, “High Signal” or “Very High Signal”.
“Turn Off Voice Prompts” will turn off the “Say a command” voice and replace it with a simple beep.
“Turn On Voice Prompts” turns the friendly voice back on.

The most exciting news this week was definitely checking out the BlackBerry Magnum. It’s really a shame that this device will never see the light of day (sources tell us), but it’s still very possible that a touchscreen/QWERTY hybrid is in the cards. Even though the Magnum had no OS loaded on it, we could still see that it used SurePress, which in my opinion would have been a little awkward. On the other hand, the Bold 9000 form factor is one I sincerely miss and hope RIM brings it back.
For all of you who want the BlackBerry Cool wallpaper that I use for these posts, download it from the above image (large size here) and use our Wallpaper service to resize the image. Now lets get caught up on the news.

With specs similar to that of a year 2000 era PC, the BlackBerry is an impressive little mobile computer. With screen resolution getting bigger with every year, I’m finding that video is all the more watchable on your device. So for those of you with a long bus, train, or chopper commute, here’s how to convert video for your BlackBerry.
PC users should watch this demonstration on how to use the Roxio Media Manager for Blackberry. The Media Manager is easy to use and works well, if you don’t have it yet, download it here.
Mac users don’t benefit from a supported video conversion suite but not to worry: the process is not that much harder to do. All you have to do is choose a file type you would like to convert to, choose the settings appropriate to your device, then drop the completed file into iTunes and sync using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac.

Recently, I shut down my Rackspace service and switched the company to Google Apps. While some users have complained that BIS email is slow, I’ve noticed a very manageable difference in delivery times for BIS versus BES. Also, whatever features I have lost in terms of contact sync and email delivery, I have definitely made up for in savings. Sure, there are some setbacks with Google Apps in terms of user experience, and I no longer have FANATICAL support, but with savings of $150-$200 per month, I’m happy with my choice. Here is a guide for anyone looking to migrate over to Google Apps.

IUGO are a really talented company when it comes to making mobile games. Their games use unique IP and design, combined with awesome 3D graphics and addictive gameplay to make games you simply can’t miss. Back when I used to use an iPhone, one of my favorite games was Zombie Attack! (aka ZA!) and it’s now available for BlackBerry.
Zombie Attack! is a tower defense game where you have to defend your cabin against a never-ending wave of zombies. Some zombies are fast and weak, others are slow and powerful. It’s up to you to choose the best combination of weaponry to fight them off.
Features:
- Different zombie types to slay.
- 4 weapon types for a variety of zombie killing techniques.
- Survivor machete: hack and slash the undead when needed.
- Stylized 3D graphics.
- Local leaderboards.
- Intuitive controls, elegant UI.
- Pick up and play for 2 minutes or 2 hours.
Check out Zombie Attack! in the BlackBerry Cool store for more details and screenshots. You’re going to love this game.

I have the latest accessory from RIM called the BlackBerry Presenter: a means of displaying PowerPoint presentations from your BlackBerry to a projector. The way it works is fairly simple. To get started, you do the following:
- Download the Presenter app to your BlackBerry.
- Connect the Presenter to a power outlet.
- Connect your projector to the Presenter.
- Pair your BlackBerry to the Presenter.
- Open a PowerPoint file and in the menu section select “Present”.
After using the device with several different types of PowerPoint presentations, I can say that this accessory had some serious drawbacks, but also more potential than any other accessory RIM has ever made.
