Review: QR Code Reader Code Muncher by Motek

code muncher

Motek, the company behind the popular screencapture app Screen Muncher, has recently released a QR code reader called Code Muncher. The app plays off the marketing success of Screen Muncher, by using similar branding and the recognizable “munching” sound whenever a QR code is read.

Code Muncher is available free as an ad-supported app that scans and reads 2D QR codes by simply launching the app and pointing your camera at them. As soon as the app recognizes the QR code, the famous “Motek Muncher Monster” will eat the code and allow you to view web sites, send SMS messages, call phone numbers, and save contact information from it. So how did it fare in testing? Hit the jump to find out.

Wireless Merchant Mobile Accounting and Payment Solution Comes with Competitive Pricing

wireless merchant

We talk a lot about mobile payment systems here at BlackBerryCool because it’s a fast growing industry with some pretty awesome implications for retail and business in general. The BlackBerry, being a secure and ubiquitous device, is the ideal platform for capturing mobile payments and we’ve recently come across a pretty awesome solution called Wireless Merchant.

Wireless Merchant is a two in one application for BlackBerry. The first application is a Credit Card Processing Module which allows merchants to process their clients’ credit cards and receive an authorization almost immediately. The second application is an Order Entry/Billing Module which integrates directly to back office accounting systems (Sage ACCPAC ERP, Sage BusinessVision and QuickBooks). This application brings the customers, items, pricing, taxes etc. into the BlackBerry and allows the merchant to process an Order, Invoice, Credit Note and/or a Quote while automatically updating their accounting system and creating a domino effect. All of this backend updating is done in real time.

BlackBerry Style 9670 Review: The First Clamshell, Full QWERTY BlackBerry

blackberry style 9670

The BlackBerry Style is official and has launched on most carriers for $99.99 on a 2 year contract (after a mail-in rebate). With TELUS, the Style will be $49.99 on a three year contract. The Style comes in steel gray and royal purple, as well as the standard black and features BlackBerry 6 out of the box.

The Style is an interesting form factor that has been hugely popular over the years but isn’t necessarily a modern trend. When you look at the devices that are gaining a lot of steam and popularity, a clamshell form factor doesn’t come to mind. Still, you can’t deny the prevalence of these devices and if anyone is going to do it at a good price point and modern design, it’s RIM. I’ve been using the device for about a month now, so lets take a deep look at this device, and see what it’s like. Hit the jump for the full review.

BlackBerry Curve 3G Review: A Slight Update to a Successful Product Line

Comments

blackberry curve 3g side

The BlackBerry Curve 3G is the latest device in the BlackBerry Curve series and the best part about it is that it has 3G and is BlackBerry 6 ready. The Curve product line has always been the most accessible of all the BlackBerry models because of its low price point and popular form factor. The Curve 3G fits nicely into this series because it has everything you would expect from a Curve but just a little more spec-wise to make it fit for 2010. According to RIM, the Curve 3G is “designed the growing mass of smartphone purchasers with a distinctly powerful, approachable and affordable choice”.

With the Curve series, it’s clear that RIM intends this device to help them saturate an increasing global demand for smartphones. “The majority of people in the worldwide mobile phone market have yet to buy their first smartphone and the BlackBerry Curve 3G is designed to provide an extremely attractive and accessible choice that will help convince many of them to make the leap,” says Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO at RIM.

So while many die-hard BlackBerry users will write this device off as a boring upgrade to the Curve series, the device isn’t really intended for them. The Torch is the smartphone for long-time Blackberry users and the Curve 3G is the smartphone for the feature phone user who is looking to convert. Click through after the jump and we’ll delve deeper into the Curve 3G and see what makes it tick.

BlackBerry Torch 9800 Review: BlackBerry 6, Touchscreen, Keyboard and More

blackberry torch

The BlackBerry Torch has been in the office for a couple of weeks now and we’ve had a long time to think about some of the intricacies of using this device for both business and pleasure. The Torch is the first BlackBerry to feature BlackBerry 6, a touchscreen and a QWERTY keyboard and RIM employees have been quoted saying it’s the best BlackBerry to date. Touchscreen devices are likely a sensitive issue with RIM as the company has had a lot of negative press over the BlackBerry Storm. The Torch has a touchscreen that has dropped the infamous SurePress technology and there is a lot of buzz about this device given the heated consumer smartphone competition. Have these improvements made it the best BlackBerry to date? Lets take a long, hard look at this device (that’s what she said).

blackberry 6

With the launch of the BlackBerry Torch from AT&T, consumers finally have their hands on BlackBerry 6 and we thought now a good time to publish an in-depth look at the new OS. If you’re a long time BlackBerry user, this OS will be very intuitive. BlackBerry 6 isn’t an entirely new experience, but rather a greatly improved experience over OS 5 with some new bells and whistles. Just like the Torch motto, BlackBerry 6 is “Less an evolutionary leap, more like a triple axel.”

The new BlackBerry 6 has several new features that make the BlackBerry experience faster, more streamlined and generally more fun. These new features can be grouped into the following categories:
