Now this is how you handle a launch. Carriers across North America have coordinated and announced the BlackBerry Bold 9700. This is going to be the best BlackBerry of 2009, hands down. The Bold 9700 is the updated version of the Bold 9000 and it is everything you loved about the first Bold, but packaged in a tighter form factor.
The carriers that have announced the device include Rogers, Bell, AT&T and T-Mobile.
We’re getting tips that RIM is launching themes on BlackBerry App World November 9th. It’s still very early to tell whether RIM will hold to this date, but we do know that they’re aiming for it. A number of events could lead to a delay but all we can do is wait and see.
If you don’t believe us: good. It’s for the best that we aren’t labeled as a leak site so don’t pass this on to any other blogs.
When we first saw the news that RIM purchased Torch Mobile, and they would have access to the Webkit open source code, it was somewhat officially confirmed that a WebKit browser was in development.
Well now we have more proof that this browser is in development as RIM has posted a job on LinkedIn, looking for someone with “expert knowledge in C++ programming.” According to the post, “the successful candidate will be working in a fast-paced, dynamic development environment to develop a WebKit-based browser for the BlackBerry Platform.”
The JumpForward app simplifies the college recruiting process for both high school athletes and college coaches, and makes sure that coaches play by the rules when communicating with perspective players.
“JumpForward provides proactive recruiting and compliance software solutions to the sports industry via the web and mobile applications on BlackBerry and iPhone. JumpForward provides athletes, parents, coaches and administrators the freedom to manage all their communications (voice, video, text) from their mobile device; proactively preventing compliance violations and increasing efficiencies at the same time. JumpForward also educates high-school athletes and parents to help them navigate the recruiting process, ensure eligibility and search for over 50,000 college coaches.”
The BlackBerry Storm 2 is going to be a great platform to develop for. The device ships with OS 5.0 meaning new APIs and features are available to the developer, including the ability to:
Link 3rd party applications to the Address Book.
Use push data more efficiently.
More easily make UI customizations.
Implement multi-touch for zooming in and out of images.
The BerryHero BlackBerry theme is following the trend of BlackBerry themes that imitate other devices’ UIs. The HTC Hero UI, called HTC Sense, features elements of TouchFlo3D, and other Windows Mobile interfaces.
This theme features 6 fixed mini icons, 8 configurable icons and a large clock.
The first 20 BlackBerry Cool readers will get the theme for free with the coupon COOLHERO.
The BlackBerry Storm 2 may be one of the most important devices for Verizon in terms of sales and revenue, and they are treating the launch with a total lack of organization. Rather than continue to post images, take them down when they’re found, show the device to students and pass the launch scoop to another carrier, perhaps they should just announce it already.
Best Buy Mobile have launched their mIQ wireless sync solution, and it’s a great way to get BES-style contact syncing but for free.
Once you have installed the app, all your contacts, calendar, SMS, and call log information are backed up to the mIQ servers. The service will also back up all your pictures and video. The app includes Facebook integration so you can set your status, which isn’t the most useful feature but welcomed nonetheless. mIQ will also tell you how much memory is free on the SDcard.
BerrySilent is a cool application that puts your BlackBerry Storm on silent once it’s flipped over. You can also set the profiles to be changed with a flip, or set it to silent with a convenience key. The device reverts to the standard profile once it’s flipped back.
A day before the Storm 2 was announced by Vodafone and RIM, the CEO of Verizon, Lowell McAdam went around showing off the BlackBerry Storm 2 to NYU students. Since then, we have been asking ourselves when the device will officially launch. Continue reading about the Verizon BlackBerry Storm 2 launch
