Price Lowered on AddOnis – The Super Utility for BlackBerry

View Comments

AddOnis is a cool app from Twinkler that they call The Super Utility for BlackBerry. The app has an incredibly long feature set, so I’ll put it after the break for you to read through. Suffice it to say, this app gives you a lot more options and features that would normally be spread across several smaller apps. With AddOnis, you can block or permit calls from certain numbers, add options to various alerts, add a configurable missed call indicator, provide In-Call notifications and more.

Twinkler let us know that they have lowered the price of AddOnis to $6.99 – a price reduction of over 29%.

The feature set is available after the jump

More Details on the Upcoming BlackBerry Slider

View Comments

BGR dropped some info on the upcoming BlackBerry slider we’ve been hearing rumors about for a long time now. While none of the details are confirmed, it’s still interesting to read through the possible specs. We’ll be able to confirm at least some of these specs when we have a visual, but for now we’re just going on rumor.

Here is what we’re hearing:

  • It’s a portrait-oriented slider. While most people assume a device with slideout keyboard would end up being something like HTC’s devices, we’ve been told this particular handset is more like the Palm Pre in terms of layout.
  • The phone will run BlackBerry OS 6.0.
  • The rumored device will 100% support Wi-Fi 802.11n.
  • The resolution unfortunately has not improved, it is still 360×480.
  • No word on if this will have a touch screen, but we’d assume so, and our source alluded to this possibly being what the rumored BlackBerry Magnum/Dakota evolved into. Not saying there won’t be a Bold-like device with touchscreen, optical trackpad, and physical keyboard, but this might be released first.
  • If it does have a touch screen, this could in fact be the mythical BlackBerry Storm slider — picture a Storm 9520 with a slide up Bold-esque keyboard.
  • The phone will not be a Verizon exclusive — it’s supposed to be a GSM/HSPA device.

It would be a shame if this device didn’t come with a touchscreen because I think touchscreens have the most consumer appeal and app potential. Especially if this device is going to be running OS 6, there should be a host of features to make development easier. BlackBerry widgets will be fully supported by then as well as probably even more APIs by that time. In any case, this is shaping up to be an interesting form factor.

Distimo Report Compares Mobile Games on Smartphones

View Comments

Distimo have released their latest report based on 2010 data that compares games in the Apple App Store, BlackBerry App World, Google Android Market, Nokia Ovi Store and Windows Marketplace. The major findings of the report include:

  • Games on the Windows Marketplace and BlackBerry App World are most expensive at $4.91 and $4.60 (on average) respectively.
  • The Games category on the Apple App Store with the most titles available is Puzzle.
  • Games published in the Role Playing category on the Apple App Store are most expensive, averaging $7.96 per game. Most other game categories average between $1.30 and $2.60.
  • 22% of the most grossing game titles in the Apple App Store were published in the Action category. The Arcade and Adventure categories were second and third with 12% and 9%, respectively. Interestingly enough, although the Puzzle category is the largest games category in the Apple App Store, relatively few of these games generate enough revenue to be ranked among the top grossing game titles.

Foursquare for BlackBerry Updated to Version 1.5

View Comments

Foursquare have updated their BlackBerry app to version 1.5 and now you can check tips from the app. Tips are a great feature of Foursquare in that they let you find out more about the restaurant or venue you’re at. Since the app has Yelp integration, I think there’s an opportunity to combine tips with reviews, to give the user more information about the venue they’re visiting. You can also add your own tip from within the app now.

Verizon to Discontinue the Storm 9530, Curve 8330, 8830 and Pearl Flip 8230

View Comments

There’s a semi-confirmed rumor that Verizon will discontinue the Storm 9530, Curve 8330, 8830 and Pearl Flip 8230. We’ve heard that the Storm is on its way out, but its news to see the Curve 8330 (America’s most popular smartphone), and the Pearl Flip, a form factor that was never really given a chance, are both gone as well. We all knew that these devices would be on their way out eventually, as carriers update their stock with the latest devices.
Are you sad to see any of these go?

Giveaway: 20 Copies of Piczzle Sliding Puzzle Game for Storm

View Comments

Piczzle is a fun game for the BlackBerry Storm that I’ve seen replicated really well on other platforms. It’s nice to see this game come to BlackBerry and I think you’ll get a lot of enjoyment out of it. The object of the game is simple: just rearrange the squares so that the picture is complete. You can choose from 3 difficulty levels and there’s a new puzzle each day. You can also use completed puzzles as your wallpaper.
