RIM doesn’t have a music solution like iTunes and it should actually stay that way. By leaving the content market open, RIM is allowing third parties to cash in and build innovative music apps. The BlackBerry itself is a great music player that allows you to drop your own music on it, but the device needs a lot more space than what a MicroSD card can fit to allow for more music. This is why a good cloud-based solution works best.
Shazam is the app that’s famous for being able to tell you what song you’re listening to, simply by having the app tag a portion of the track. The app has been recently updated, and the major feature is that they are now offering sales through the 7Digital store. Also new to the app includes the ability to watch music videos of tagged songs with YouTube (Vevo?) and tweet tags to your followers.
7Digital have announced that their app is now fully integrated with Last.fm. Users can now link their Last.fm account to 7digital’s BlackBerry App, allowing them to scrobble played tracks from their mobile. The ‘Now Playing’ status is also updated on a user’s Last.fm profile. Also part of the news, 7Digital is now available in the Netherlands and across 15 new European countries.
Other and more specific updates include:
Enhanced 7digital store artist search
Support for the BlackBerry Curve 8350i smartphone
Netherlands store support and localisation with local artist tracks and albums
Additional country access for 15 European countries: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia.
Media card encryption support.
Improved My Locker refresh performance.
Download greater volumes of data through improved carrier network support.

7Digital have officially announced the launch of their BlackBerry app with access to over 7 million MP3s. The app allows users to download music over GPRS/EDGE/3G or WiFi, and build a library of DRM-free MP3s on their BlackBerry.
The app, developed in partnership with DevelopIQ, will also let users access purchased tracks on 7digital.com via the built-in digital locker. You will be able to listen to the tracks from an integrated media player, as well as stream them to your car or home via Bluetooth.
