Screenshots of OS 4.5 on Pearl leaked

Comments

OS 4.5Some fresh screenshots of OS 4.5 have emerged for the BlackBerry 8100. The audio equalizer is conspicuously absent from this version, but stereo Bluetooth and folder creation are both a go. Office document support is well on its way, with both PowerPoint and Word editing functioning nicely. The camera’s got a bit of a tweak, now offering some blur detection. On the whole, it looks like this OS is standing nicely on the shoulders of 4.3.

OS 4.3 packing stereo Bluetooth support?

BluetoothKevin has had a chance to play around with OS 4.3 on the BlackBerry 8100 and found that it supports A2DP, a feature previously found only on the Curve and later Pearl models. As a guy who’s stuck listening to podcasts on the dinky mono earbud with his Pearl, I’m pretty excited about the news. With any luck the stereo Bluetooth support will also hit the 8800 whenever OS 4.3.1 becomes publicly available.

UPDATED: Telus 8130 hits online store, Ottawa gets in early

Comments

Telus 8130Canadians rejoice! Telus has opened up the BlackBerry 8130 for sale, $199.99 with a three year hook in your cheek. Side-loading microSD slot, 2 mpx camera, EVDO compatibility, GPS, A2DP, and comes bundled with not only the lovely new Facebook app, but also Pocket Express. A solid release combined with Telus’ generally rosy third quarter report paints a pretty picture for this carrier’s near future. Props to BlackBerry Sync for nailing the dates and deets.

UPDATE: With a bit of smooth talking, yours truly got the Telus folks here in Ottawa to crack open their shipment early. The rep I talked with hadn’t touched a BlackBerry before, so she was just about as excited as I was to give it a shot.

Bluetooth-enabled handsets to top 500 million

Comment

BluetoothA recent report from IMS Research is forcasting clear skies for Bluetooth technology this year, claiming 500 million Bluetooth-capable devices will be shipped this year. Stereo bluetooth is still in its infant stages, but making progress. A2DP compatibility on phones has been a considerable bottleneck for market penetration, but so has style. The Motorokr S9 is a good example of how stereo Bluetooth design is becoming more mainstream, and after swinging by a Telus store last night, I found the even-sweeter BTS-500 (just came out last week, not on their site yet). BlackBerrys have been toting Bluetooth for a hell of a long time, but emerging markets with high demand for low-cost, low-feature handsets could potentially stunt Bluetooth growth. If you’re in the market for some Bluetooth headsets, take a look over here.

BlackBerry 8130 rumored to launch on Verizon November 8th.

Comments

VerizonOur November timeframe for the BlackBerry 8130 release just got narrowed down considerably by a Verizon snitch today. November 8th. looks like Verizon’s release date for the 8130, with pre-orders starting October 26th. The 8130 is quite a bit of machinery, if you haven’t seen the specs yet, which include GPS, stereo Bluetooth, EVDO, and a video-capturing camera in a silver or amethyst case.
