Here’s some more video goodness of our time at AIM Autosport for the Telus BlackBerry Curve 8350i launch event. I had a great time talking to Ian Willis, one of the founders of AIM, about a variety of things: why his company needs a PTT BlackBerry running on the Mike network, how cool his car is, and a special project he’s working on with RIM/Telus (it’s quite cool). Ian is actually a BlackBerry Cool reader and also gave us a nice shout out. If you want to learn more about AIM (they have a great team and wicked cars), you can check out another video about them after the jump, or a link to their website below.
Finally, AT&T is releasing the service books to run native AIM and ICQ clients on BlackBerry. If you’re an IM fiend, I suggest heading over to mobile.blackberry.com and downloading both apps. The clients are working smoothly with the BlackBerry OS and they compliment GTalk and Windows Live Messenger, making you and your device the ultimate IM machine.
If you’re looking tempted by Mundu, but remain a penny-pincher, Instango just launched, offering free support across multiple instant messaging systems, like GTalk, ICQ, AIM, MSN, Yahoo, QQ, Gadu-Gadu and Jabber. Instango also features SMS, mail and RSS access, file and picture sending, as well as a push-to-talk system. Sounds like it’s worth a shot if you’re still shopping around for that one client to handle all your chatting needs.
Everyone’s favourite handheld chat client has been updated to version 1.0.3. JiveTalk lets you access AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, GTalk, ICQ, Jabber, and now MySpace IM contacts all in the same app on your BlackBerry. This update also includes AIM buddy icons and some UI fixes. Thanks Josep!
Rogers and AT&T are already set up, but word has it Sprint is getting BIS 2.3 today, alongside AIM on both iDEN and CDMA. Any Sprint users out there able to verify?
In a spiced rum-induced stupor, the fearsome Captain Anonymous has let slip that amid his varied travels on the turbulent Wireless Seas, he had heard whisperings of the fabled AIM chat app coming to BlackBerry on Sprint June 18th (both iDen and CDMA). You can’t always trust pirates, but the sheen of lootlust in his eye told me he knew it was coming and he would have it. I tried to tell him about JiveTalk, but he just passed out on the floor, mumbling drunkenly to himself about buddy lists.
