Comments

appstore-launch-large

The BlackBerry Cool App Store is live and I’m serious when I say it’s better than App World. Here are some of the reasons why users should shop in the BlackBerry Cool App Store:

  • Deal-of-the-Day: Exclusive offer of a new top-selling app every day for 50% off
  • Specials: Loads of discounted apps and bundles can be found daily
  • Themes, themes, and more themes: we offer thousands of themes (App World doesn’t carry themes)
  • Over 5,000 Apps which can be browsed by category, top free, top paid, and new
  • Great everyday prices: app are priced as low as $0.99 versus App World minimum price of $2.99
  • Fast pay with credit card — eliminates the need for a Paypal account (we will be adding Paypal mobile soon)
  • Dedicated customer service – to ensure complete customer satisfaction
  • Automatic version-tracking – instant update for every app on the user phone
  • Superior performance (screen loads and user interface)

A day in the life of a BlackBerry Storm power user

BlackBerry Storm

It’s 7:40am and my BlackBerry wakes me up to, The Killers – ‘Mr Brightside,’ thanks to the BBSmart Alarms Pro application. I fiddle around to unplug my Storm from the charger, swipe it unlocked using StormSlider and open up Viigo via QuickLaunch. With one eye open and the other one closed, I tap on ‘News & RSS’; After another 15-second sleep the channels are all updated and I read the newest headlines from BlackBerryCool, BerryReview, CrackBerry and CNN World. I find an interesting article and send it to Twitter via Viigo. While flipping through emails on the BlackBerry, I see one that has to get forwarded to another recipient – using Forward with Edit. Now I can still edit the forwarded message and send the corrected version.

Still half sleeping, I open up TwitterBerry to read the latest replies and update my status to: “Still in bed, let’s start this day slowly!” Now, it’s time to get up. I hit the shower, place the BlackBerry somewhere next to me and launch BerryTunes. I love listening to music while showering.

Now I’m ready to go! BerryWeather gets launched to see how the weather is going to be today. It’s going to rain so I grab a coat. I can’t decide what color of coat to wear so I open up Coin Toss and let the application make the choice. While leaving I look at the paintings hanging on the wall and realize that something is not right. I whip out my BlackBerry Storm again, launch Storm Level Pro and hold it against the picture-frame. The app tells me the pictures hangs ‘-2’ to the left, so I quickly shift it in position and rush out.

User-generated mobile content app in App World

Comments

blackberry_app_world

FunMobility has an app called America’s Best Mobile Pix (APIX), a mobile photo community application currently being offered as a downloadable feature on Blackberry. America’s Best Mobile Pix will now easily integrate into Blackberry address libraries so users can easily access location information and share photos with friends.

The total number of APIX users has surpassed 2.25m with the total number of photos submitted eclipsing 1.5m. In all over 475m (or nearly half a billion) votes have been cast into contests such as Hottest Girl, Hottest Guy, Cutest Baby, Best Pet, Coolest Ride, and Funniest Pix, which lets users take photos using their camera phone, share the content with others, and then submit them for a chance to win real cash and prizes.

Apps and details surrounding RIM’s App World

Comments

RIM App World

Now that App World is live, let’s take a look at what is featured in the App World client and what you can expect from it. Before we begin, make sure you have a PayPal account, OS 4.2 or higher and a trackball or SurePress touch screen (aka Storm) BlackBerry before proceeding.

Remember, to download the App World client, go here with your BlackBerry browser..

The homescreen in App World begins with “Featured Items” which can be navigated to buy some of the best content for BlackBerry according to RIM. Okay, it may not be the absolute best, and here at BBCool we’ve seen some great apps, but they are sweet nonetheless. For example, the list includes:

Viigo for BlackBerry – Free
Yahoo Messenger – Free
Facebook – Free
Bloomberg – Free
Texas Hold’em King 3 – $5.99
MySpace – Free
AOL Instant Messenger – Free
Brain Challenge 2: Stress Management – $4.99
New York Times Crosswords – Classics Vol 1 – $4.99
Google Talk – Free
ICQ – Free

I think we can all agree that it’s a decent list of apps to start off with before going through the rest of App World.

When you do decide to keep browsing, you have a plethora of options. You can browse by categories that include Games, Music and Video, or Personal Health and Wellness.

Downloading an App is very simple, the payment system is the only downside. RIM partnered with PayPal rather than implement their own payment structure which could have sped up the whole process. Instead, when you click on an app, you are presented with Download, Reviews or Screenshots. If you’re going to purchase the app, you must sign in to PayPal.
