BBM Being Used for Customer Service in the Middle East

It’s pretty widely understood that BBM is being used all over Asia in some pretty interesting ways. The messaging app is still incredibly popular in East Asia as well as South-East Asia. Recently, @shahriyarali tweeted a photo of a customer service BBM pin, and the timing is very interesting. With BBM Channels being released, stories like this are one reason brands and businesses are going to start adopting BBM as a tool for engaging with customers. This could be a sign of things to come.

I like this guy’s energy. It’s like the passion of Ballmer’s “developers!” speech but more modest and genuine. Alec Saunders took the stage to talk about the progress of BlackBerry 10 and the BlackBerry ecosystem. There’s some really interesting stats in his keynote, including the fact that BlackBerry 10 technically has more apps in its ecosystem compared to other ecosystems at their same point in time. Yahoo! Launches App for Emerging Markets

Yahoo! laucnhed an app for consumers in emerging markets where lower-end devices are the point of entry for the Internet. The app lets users in these regions access Yahoo!’s services more easily and gives them access to mail, messenger, Flickr, Fantasy Sports and Finance, with fewer clicks. Features of the Yahoo! app include:

  • Once downloaded, it remains persistent on the device, making the full catalog of Yahoo! services easier to use and discover
  • Reduces need for typing long URL’s into the mobile browser
  • Surfaces Yahoo! services that consumers may not have known about
  • Makes it easier to discover snippets of interesting Yahoo! news, sports and financial information throughout the day by surfacing everything in one place

DEVCON Asia 2011 – Developer Round Up

DevCon Asia looks like it was a blast. As RIM expands into various regions around the world, getting developers together to get passionate about the platform is really going to help the platform grow in terms of apps, but it will also help grow a lot of localized content that wouldn’t otherwise exist. At DevCon Asia, the main areas of discussion were centered around the PlayBook, BlackBerry OS 6.1 and the BBM platform which has been an incredible hit in Asia Pac as we’ve seen from the videos RIM has made recently.

The BlackBerry Curve 8900 launches in Hong Kong
