One of the awesome features of the latest version of BBM is that you can use animated avatars. With Avatar Animator, a new app by mblware, you can get your own animated avatar for BBM. GIFs are a great way to express yourself and since there are very specific guidelines when using an animated GIF in your BBM profile, Avatar Animator scales animations to the proper specs. With Avatar Animator, you can set everything up quickly and easily. It may even work for Twitter (we have yet to test).

BBM is an incredibly powerful tool for BlackBerry users. It’s especially powerful when it’s combined with apps to help facilitate communication and sharing rich media. It’s even more powerful when combined with NFC to make all of this seamless and a simple matter of tapping two phones together. RIM is betting heavily on NFC and while we haven’t seen any real use cases for it yet on an NFC BlackBerry, BBM could be the first mass use-case. The latest version of BBM lets users set their BBM to auto-add any contact that is being shared by tapping. The NFC portion guarantees the person is a trusted connection and circumvents all the boring QR code scanning or sending someone your PIN.

RadiumOne today released a new update to their widely used PingMe Messenger app for BlackBerry. The new app, which is now integrated with BBM, enables users to send video messages in addition to text, picture and voice-notes as well as a host of other updates. When the PingMe app first launched, the reviews weren’t stellar but it’s great to see the company persist and launch another version. With this new version, users will see significantly improved battery life, easier registration and more.

Brain Cube by Ximad has been updated in a sequel game called Brain Cube Reloaded. The game involves moving a 3D, rectangular object around a map, avoiding objects and making your way to the end of the level. The game, which is being offered for free in App World, has a lot of levels to keep you busy, as well as BBM integration and graphics that are really easy on the eyes. The device support is pretty great with Brain Cube, and supports a wide range of devices from the 8300 to the 9900.
