The Arduous Task of Monitoring Your Portfolio in App World

App World

For BlackBerry Theme and App developers, it’s important to check your download/sales reports, and figure out how your product is doing in App World. Ideally, you’re meant to learn more about what sells and how best to tailor your product(s) to fit what users are demanding. A good strategy to success in App World is to have a large portfolio of apps or themes, but as your portfolio increases, it becomes more difficult to manage all of these apps/themes. Here is a typical example of how a developer, with many products in his/her portfolio, would find managing these products given the current features of the App World vendor portal.

Put Your App and BlackBerry Product Ideas on Kickstarter

Kelvin Hulet let us know about a Universal Smartphone Mount project he started on Kickstarter and it got us thinking: why aren’t there more BlackBerry product and app ideas kicking around Kickstarter? There are a quite a few for iPhone but the BlackBerry community doesn’t seem to be interested in Kickstarter.

The BlackBerry community is constantly saying “I wish there was an app for that” and with a little funding you could get your project going. Developers could also take advantage of this service and raise money for an app they’d like to build but can’t find the monetary incentive to create. Have you ever had an idea for a BlackBerry app or product but didn’t have the investment? Try Kickstarter and let BlackBerryCool know. We’ll help you promote it and maybe throw a little cash your way.

RIM Officially Announces BlackBerry App World Desktop Storefront

app world desktop commerce

While we reported that App World’s desktop storefront went live yesterday, RIM has sent out an update officially announcing it. The latest update to the App World website allows users to purchase and download apps directly from their PC. Through the BlackBerry App World storefront users can now:

  • Purchase apps directly from the website
  • Edit My World accounts to sync app downloads directly to the BlackBerry smartphone
  • Read and write reviews and recommend items to peers
  • Access purchased or downloaded apps from a computer via the My World page in the BlackBerry App World storefront

Head over to the App World site to check it out. We’re still waiting on Mac support and hopefully it will come soon.

Question: will this mean more downloads and sales for developers, or just more convenience for users?

Slacker Radio 2.0 Now Available!

Just in time for tonight’s party, our friends over at Slacker Radio let us know that the Slacker application for BlackBerry has had a full revision jump to version 2.0. According to them, with this version, performance has been significantly addressed, producing near instantaneous song transitions and skip times.  Though there will still be some dependencies on your network, play performance will get a dramatic boost.

When playing a station, you’ll notice the “next up” album art appears as you listen. When the album art appears, your skip times to the next song will be nearly instant and most all song transitions during playback will happen immediately.

If all of this sounds great to you, hit http://www.slacker.com from your BlackBerry Browser for the download of the updated version. Be sure to reboot your phone when you’re done, so the new install can clean up the old version for you.
