BlackBerryCool Roundup for the Week of May 24th

If you only read one article this week on BlackBerryCool it should probably be the BlackBerry Bold 9650 review. The device launched semi-recently on Sprint and is one of the best BlackBerrys currently on the market. With 512MB of updated memory, it’s a likely scenario that this device will get an OS 6 upgrade, making it future-proofed for the foreseeable future. There are rumors circulating that devices even as new as the Bold 9700 won’t be getting an OS 6 upgrade for memory reasons, which could lead one to believe that 512MB is the cutoff for OS 6. In any case, this is all speculation and we’ll have a better idea for who gets OS 6 once we see it in the wild. Other than that, this week is jam-packed with apps you should try and themes worth downloading so be sure to hit the list after the jump.

Review of the BlackBerry Bold 9650 from Sprint

The BlackBerry Bold 9650 is basically the Tour 2, but rebranded and launched as a Bold series device. The story seems to be that when the “Tour2″ was leaked soon after the launch of the original Tour, users started to complain about an update being worked on so soon after the original device was launched. The sentiment at the time was a slight resentment at the fact that Tour owners just bought a device without WiFi, and here was a new Tour with WiFi and a trackpad (something all Tour owners would have loved). In response, RIM seems to have changed the branding of the device over to a Bold, and probably pushed a Tour update down the pipe. Regardless of the branding, this is a Tour in my opinion, but I’ll refer to it as a Bold for SEO purposes.

BlackBerryCool Roundup for the Week of May 17th

Yet another week in BlackBerry and this week belongs to the Sprint BlackBerry Bold 9650. The Bold 9650 is essentially the Tour 2, but with a Bold brand so as to not offend current Tour users. BlackBerryCool has the device in-house and it’s a really awesome piece of hardware. The Tour has an excellent form factor which is a little bigger and heavier than say the 9700, making it ideal for someone with hands that are a little bigger. Expect a full review shortly. In terms of apps, Matt is in search of the best games for BlackBerry and has been reviewing several a week. This week he reviewed Age of Empires and Boeing Bomber! for BlackBerry. Have you played any games you really liked or disliked? Let us know.

Sprint BlackBerry Bold 9650 Comes Factory Unlocked

Sprint has a great history of being open with their unlocking process and Sam over at Cellfservices tells us that the Bold 9650 will come factory unlocked. Users will be able to use EDGE on all North American GSM providers and 3G pending on the GSM frequencies of the prepaid carrier they decide to use in their country of travel.

It’s almost certain that the Verizon Bold 9650 will not come unlocked.  None of their devices come unlocked including the older 8830 model.  Also, the first Bold 9650 Cellfservices unlocked back on January 28, 2010 (preproduction) was locked to the Verizon network.

So if you’re looking to pick up a Bold 9650, keep in mind the Sprint version is unlocked.

BlackBerryCool Roundup for the Week of April 26th

Of course the big news this week was the annual BlackBerry show WES. This year, RIM announced BlackBerry MVS 5, the Pearl 3G and the Bold 9650. We also received a demo of the upcoming BlackBerry 6, that comes with the latest BlackBerry WebKit browser. It was a great show and I recommend you scroll down to check out BlackBerryCool’s unique coverage of the show.

The latest devices look really great, and RIM’s product line seems to be on a slow and steady chart of improvement. Adoption of BlackBerrys globally is exponential, and if you’re looking for some insight into where the company is heading, make sure to listen/read everything that Mike Lazaridis said during the conference. Hit up the articles after the jump and take the weekend to get caught up.
