RIM Announces the Bold 9900 and 9930 Smartphones

blackberry bold touch

RIM has announced the Bold 9900 and the 9930 here at BlackBerry World 2011 and they’re going to be killer devices. Combining a touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard, and being the thinnest devices yet, these BlackBerrys are a great new addition to the team (we’ll know for sure post-review).

In terms of impressive specs, the Bolds are built on a new performance-driven platform featuring a 1.2 GHz processor, Liquid Graphics touch screen, and support for high speed 4G/HSPA+ wide area wireless networks. These smartphones also feature NFC, APIs for augmented reality and 720p HD video recording and playback. Expect these devices to launch early this summer.

BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 Running OS 6.1 Pictures

blackberry 9900

We’re seeing more and more pictures of the Bold Touch 9900 as it nears an official announcement. The device looks to have a really awesome form factor, reminiscent of the Bold 9000 but slimmer and modern. The Bold Touch in this picture is running OS 6.1 too.

What do you think? Looks like a device you would buy? This device would be great paired with a PlayBook. Touch, touch, touch!

More pictures after the jump.

The BlackBerry Bold Touch Caught on Video

YouTube Link

The Bold Touch looks like a really slick form factor with a Bold 9000 style keyboard but much thinner and modern looking. The above is a short video of the device that gives just a brief look at the homescreen and the About screen. There doesn’t seem to be anything all that new in 6.1 from a user perspective that we can see in this video, and from what we’re hearing OS 6.1 sounds like a lot of API and developer-side improvements. In any case, we’ll learn much more come BlackBerry World when the announcements are set to drop.

BlackBerry Touchscreens and Full QWERTY Keyboards Are Going to Rule

There are a couple devices hitting the market this summer and possibly to be announced at BlackBerry World that will feature a full QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen. The Bold Touch will be the old Bold 9000 form factor with a touchscreen and what we’re seeing now looks like a Curve with a touchscreen. Regardless of what the haters are saying, these devices are going to be incredible. The trackpad is great for actions like selecting text quickly, but you can’t beat a finger swipe for navigating icons and using apps. Not only that, but you’ll be able to bang out emails with ease and switch to a fun game like Finger Trap (albeit it might be a little harder to play on a smaller screen). It’s the best of both worlds.

We highlighted the benefits in our BlackBerry Torch review. The input methods break down as follows:

Pictures of the BlackBerry Bold Touch Emerge

It’s funny that someone titles their post “hands-on” and yet you never a) see their hands b) see any video proof the device was in their hands or c) write any information about the device you couldn’t get from an email of someone who sent you the pics. Anyways, cool pics bro!

Tutorial Videos for Touch Monaco and Bold Show Basic Features

BlackBerry Bold Touch 9930 Making Call

It’s cool to see these tutorial videos because it confirms the hardware and tells us we’re that much closer to a launch date. We’re expecting these devices to get announced at BlackBerry World, because they’ll probably go on sale some time in the summer before the Developer Conference.

If both the Bold Touch and the Monaco hit the market at around the same time, which would you buy?

Also, we should have interviewed Lisa Perry for April Fool’s Day as she appears in every single official BlackBerry video and screenshot.
