All About The BlackBerry Storm (BlackBerry Cool Podcast)

Comments

With the Verizon BlackBerry Storm launch less than a day away, it was obvious that it would dominate our podcast. We brought in Kyle McInnes, Editor in Chief of QuicklyBored and our resident iPhone user, to talk all things BlackBerry Storm and how it might stack up to Apple’s touchscreen. From price to target demographic, the Application Center to copy and paste, we’re all about the BlackBerry Storm this week.

Viigo launches NCAA Basketball service for BlackBerry Cool To Go

Comments

Viigo is quickly becoming one of the easiest ways for BlackBerry users to stay up to date on all their sporting news. Following their recent NBA basketball announcement, Viigo has launched its NCAA basketball service, just in time for the start of the Men’s college season. While I don’t normally get NCAA crazy until March Madness begins (there’s just too many NBA games to watch), I must admit the NCAA has already captured my attention (how did Rhode Island almost beat Duke?). I’m also quite interested to see how Stephen Curry, who made a big slash at the tourney last year, progresses as a point guard. Whatever your interest, Viigo’s NCAA service provides access to the scores, schedules, news and commentary you need to follow your alma mater.

For current Viigo/BlackBerry Cool to Go users looking to add the NCAA basketball service, simply select “Sports” from the Viigo home screen and then “Add Sport” from the following page. If you don’t have the BlackBerry Cool To Go version of Viigo yet, click the link below to download it for free! Make sure to also check out Viigo’s NFL, NHL, NCAA Football and Soccer services as well!

Viigo adds e-books via DailyLit

Comments

In the most recent edition of our Nan the Power User editorial series, Nan demonstrated how using Viigo could help reduce your email clutter. Our friend from the South is currently on his honeymoon, but if he was available, I’m sure he’d be spreading the word that Viigo can now help reduce your book clutter through its new e-book service, powered by DailyLit.

The best part about Viigo’s new ebook service is that it contains 25 free books that you can read right now! And we’re not talking about Dan Brown pap here, but classic literature like Moby Dick and Don Quixote.

If you’re interested in brushing up on your classics without having to lug around dusty tomes, you can subscribe to Viigo’s e-book service by downloading BlackBerry Cool To Go. You can read instructions on how to subscribe after the jump.

Seriously, if you are an American citizen, this website is the last place you should be right now. Go vote. You get to decide the course of the free world for the next four years; fulfill your responsibility with pride.

I tell you what, we’ll let you read BlackBerry Cool on your BlackBerry while waiting in line to vote. Deal? After that you should probably go get in line for an AT&T BlackBerry Bold. I’m just sayin’.

For our non-American audience, we now return to our regularly scheduled programming.

BlackBerry Developer Conference: the Interviews (BlackBerry Cool Podcast)

Comments

The BlackBerry Cool Podcast

Ok, so we’re a little late (early?) with this edition of The BlackBerry Cool Podcast. Blame the Blackberry Developer Conference – the sunny weather and good times left us pretty unreceptive to Ottawa’s dreary climate, making doing any sort of work quite difficult.

We’ve been thinking quite a bit about BBDC this past week, because it was such a clear marker of the sea change currently underway in the BlackBerry ecosystem. There is so much energy coming from RIM and BlackBerry developers right now. The amount of cool applications displayed during the BlackBerry Cool 15, the BBDC Keynote, or by enthusiastic developers with BlackBerrys in hand was mind-boggling. If you weren’t there yourself, you wouldn’t believe BlackBerrys could do these things. I’m sure with the new APIs and tools being released by RIM, the software we see at WES will be even better.

To that end, this week’s entire podcast is dedicated to the people that help make BBDC worthwhile: developers and the VC’s that fund them.

Beth Marcus, Zeemote
Evgeny Lebanidze, BeamBerry
Peter Werry, Multiplied (Poynt)
Robert Kao, SmrtGuard (PeeKaWho)
Rick Segal, BlackBerry Partners Fund

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get anyone from BlackBerry Cool 15 winner Nobex on the podcast (they were too busy cashing their 150,000 cheque), but we’ll have them on next week. Downloading/streaming options for the BlackBerry Cool Podcast can be found after the jump, as well as links to all the relevant news stories. Enjoy!

Mmm, can you smell that? It’s my most favorite smell in the world: new car smell. After running up the mileage way past warranty on the old BBCool, it was time to start fresh. While upon first glance the changes may seem entirely aesthetic, the new BlackBerry Cool is much more than a fresh coat of paint. We’ve completely overhauled the site from the ground up to make way for more improvements/cool features to appear in the coming weeks and months.

So please, do us a favor and kick the tires a bit; we’re sure to have missed some things along the way. If you notice any bugz/glitches/browser weirdness, please ping us using our contact form with the heading ‘NEW BBCOOL’. You can also post a comment and let us know what you think – please keep all criticism constructive.

Big shout out to the entire BBCool/Smoke Labs team for making this happen so fast!
