blackberry curve 3G t-mobile

Today, RIM and Verizon announced the BlackBerry Curve 3G. The Curve 3G 9300 features, of course 3G, but it’s also BlackBerry 6 compatible. With the 8520 floating around for a little cheaper, users will have to make up their mind about whether the price increase is worth the BlackBerry 6 potential and 3G. If you’re in the market for a Curve, you might as well spend the little bit extra up front to get these features.

BlackBerry Curve 3G Review: A Slight Update to a Successful Product Line

blackberry curve 3g side

The BlackBerry Curve 3G is the latest device in the BlackBerry Curve series and the best part about it is that it has 3G and is BlackBerry 6 ready. The Curve product line has always been the most accessible of all the BlackBerry models because of its low price point and popular form factor. The Curve 3G fits nicely into this series because it has everything you would expect from a Curve but just a little more spec-wise to make it fit for 2010. According to RIM, the Curve 3G is “designed the growing mass of smartphone purchasers with a distinctly powerful, approachable and affordable choice”.

With the Curve series, it’s clear that RIM intends this device to help them saturate an increasing global demand for smartphones. “The majority of people in the worldwide mobile phone market have yet to buy their first smartphone and the BlackBerry Curve 3G is designed to provide an extremely attractive and accessible choice that will help convince many of them to make the leap,” says Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO at RIM.

So while many die-hard BlackBerry users will write this device off as a boring upgrade to the Curve series, the device isn’t really intended for them. The Torch is the smartphone for long-time Blackberry users and the Curve 3G is the smartphone for the feature phone user who is looking to convert. Click through after the jump and we’ll delve deeper into the Curve 3G and see what makes it tick.

BlackBerry Curve 3G Coming to T-Mobile September 8th

blackberry curve 3G t-mobile

The BlackBerry Curve 3G will be hitting T-Mobile stores on September 8th for $79.99 on a two year contract. The device is a slight upgrade to the successful Curve series and is intended to target new smartphone users, or seasoned BlackBerry users who are die-hard fans of the Curve series. This device doesn’t use any “new” hardware and RIM seems to have chosen specs that will drive down the price as much as possible.

Do you think $79.99 on a 2-year is cheap enough to merit a slight Curve upgrade?

BlackBerry 6 Update for Bell Devices Not Coming Until 2011

bell blackberry 6

How lame is this? A leaked document shows that BlackBerry 6 won’t be available for Bell OS 6 ready devices until 2011. Users are eagerly awaiting the Bold 9700, BlackBerry Pearl 3G and the Curve 3G from Bell to upgrade with BlackBerry 6 and it looks like they’re going to have to wait until hell freezes over to get the update. Other than the Torch, which should launch early October, it’s not clear when these BlackBerry 6-ready devices are expected to launch, but 2011 seems a long ways away. Too bad, so sad, your dad.

RIM Announces the BlackBerry Curve 3G in Thailand

blackberry curve 3g

The BlackBerry Curve 3G is coming to Thailand and in the press release, RIM says it’s “BlackBerry 6 ready”. This could mean either it ships with 6 or they’re just saying it can be upgraded when BlackBerry 6 is available. The Curve 3G from Telus ships with OS 5 so it’s more likely that the latter is true.

The new BlackBerry Curve 3G is expected to be available in Thailand in September.
