Rogers let us know that an official OS 5.0 build is available for the Curve 8900. We’re still trying to get them to send us a full log file and hopefully they’ll include it in future announcements. Until then, just hit the download site to set yourself up.

A BlackBerry OS hybrid takes the best of the various OS builds and puts them into a single load. Sometimes an OS version will have a faster browser or menu navigation, and someone capable of building a hybrid OS can extract that app/file and run it on a different OS base. A hybrid OS will also tend to remove extra files that aren’t needed, allowing the device to run a little smoother. The hybrid OS world is something unique to BlackBerry, and it’s something that every BlackBerry user can enjoy getting in to. The average user tends to avoid hybrid builds because they’re not official and can sometimes lead to critical failures. You have to be comfortable enough loading a new OS on your device and restoring a nuked BlackBerry in order to really enjoy the process.
Today, hybrids were released using BlackBerry OS 6 files from the BlackBerry Clamshell 9670 and compiled into a hybrid for the BlackBerry Bold 9000, 9700, Storm 9500, Tour 9600, Curve 8900 and 8500. We have been testing the hybrids on several devices, the first of which was the Bold 9000. The Bold 9000 probably won’t be getting OS 6 so it looks like a hybrid might be the closest that users will get to trying it out, unless of course they update their hardware. Click after the jump to see screenshots and details of what applications were extracted for this OS 6 hybrid. In general, the builds are really smooth and if you haven’t tried out the hybrid world, give it a shot. You will have a new appreciation for what it’s like using an “open” platform like BlackBerry.

Today was a pretty wild day for leaks. We have updated OS 5 leaks for the Curve 8520, Tour 9630, Bold 9000, Curve 8900 and Bold 9700. It’s not every day that so many OS leaks drop at once but I guess when it rains it pours.
I’m not positive but I’m pretty sure that’s a BlackBerry Curve 8900 from T-Mobile and according to the owner, it has 4,150 diamonds (30.51 carats) and it’s wrapped in 18K gold. The price tag on the phone is over $200,000 USD but there doesn’t seem to be any info on where to buy. It’s too bad it’s an 8900 as well, because if I were to get a $200,000 smartphone, I would probably want 3G.

Wind are the first carrier to officially launch OS 188.8.131.529 and they’re rolling it out on three devices. The Bold 9000, Curve 8900 and and 8520 are all getting this new update. So far, reports about the update are positive so this is definitely worth checking out for yourself.
BerryReview posted OS 184.108.40.2069 for the Bold 9000 and Curve 8900. The servers at RapidShare are overloaded right now so hopefully someone out there can comment a mirror link. Otherwise, sit on the site and wait for an opening.
Did you get it? What do you think?
