BlackBerry PlayBook Loads Apps 30% Faster Than Apple iPad 2 [Video]

The developer of Pop Corny recently posted a video demonstrating the time it takes to launch his application on the iPad 2 versus the PlayBook. The results show the PlayBook launches the app 30% faster than the iPad 2. While this doesn’t make a difference in-game, it’s a good thing for developers to know that users are getting their apps opened faster and jumping into the action. According to the developer, “You know [RIM has] done something right when it allows a developer that had never even used the platform, come in and port his game in 2-3 days. But that, coupled with the fact that the game actually runs better than it does on the platform that is was originally written for, makes for something really impressive.”

Puzkend is a puzzle game where the goal is to clear the game board by matching similar items into strings of three or more. The matched items will disappear. To succeed, you need to to anticipate the effects of your moves. As matched items are removed, the remaining items will fall and roll down. There’s no time limit and no need to worry about making mistakes, as you can always go back as many moves you like.

Smarter Apps Announces 10 Million BlackBerry Users and Makes Angry Farm Game Free

Smarter Apps is a mobile game development studio in Ottawa, Canada. The company was founded by some ex-RIM employees and has grown pretty tremendously since its founding. Recently, Smarter Apps celebrated over 10 million unique BlackBerry users on its platform and its total user base is probably much larger. The company also has games for Android and iOS, so it’s probably going to announce 20 million in the not-so-distant future. To celebrate, Smarter Apps is making its most successful BlackBerry game, Angry Farm, free for everyone.

RIM Releases Scoreloop SDK 1.0 for BlackBerry Native SDK for PlayBook OS With KAMI RETRO HD

RIM’s acquisition of Scoreloop, the mobile gaming achievement company, has led to a 1.0 release of the Scoreloop SDK for BlackBerry and users can check out what it’s like in KAMI RETRO HD by Paw Print Games. With the Scoreloop SDK, developers can add leaderboards, challenges, awards, and more. The hope is that all of this will save developers time, create a more fun gaming experience for BlackBerry users and make the platform more attractive all around.
