Magmic has been making BlackBerry games for a long time, specifically over 10 years. The company went from creating a black and white title for the early BlackBerry 5810 to launching an innovative poker game that uses in-app payments for virtual chips (THK Live). To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Magmic has made a really sweet timeline graphic of some of the games they’ve launched on BlackBerry and other platforms over the last decade. It’s an awesome way to get a glimpse at how gaming on BlackBerry and smartphones in general has changed over the years. Prepare to get nostalgic.

The PlayBook is shaping up to be a great gaming device. The form factor makes it portable and there are a few companies like Gameloft and EA pumping out some quality content. With support for Marmalade and Unity, there are some cool indie games hitting the PlayBook as well. For all the hate that the PlayBook gets, from a BlackBerry user perspective it’s great to have such complementary devices. Some people would carry a BlackBerry for work and an iPhone for play, and now you have a BlackBerry and a PlayBook. They go together nicely. Kill Time on Your PlayBook With Freemium Keep Up! Game By Szello

One of the first games I ever downloaded on the PlayBook was Keep Up!. It’s a simple game and the developer Szello, was one of the first to market getting a game on the PlayBook. I recently met up with Tareq, the founder of Szello, and it turns out he used to be a RIM employee and is now doing his own company. LOTR: Middle Earth Defence is a tower defense game by Glu based on the Lord of the Rings feature films. The game follows Frodo and the fellowship of the ring on their long journey towards Mordor to destroy the ring in the same evil volcano in which the ring was originally forged.
